METHODOLOGY

Chapter 2

This chapter provides the information on the research methods that meet the

objectives of the study. These are research design and the locale or the setting on where

the research is to be conducted. These are followed by the respondents or the participants

of the study from which data is to be collected. The sampling design and research

instruments are also included in this chapter. Lastly, the statistical analyses of the study are

being discussed.

Research Design

This study will use the descriptive - correlation method of research. It attempts to

describe, analyze, interpret and, correlate data concerning the performances of every

tertiary school present in Bislig City in terms of their monitoring and evaluation systems.

In connection, this study will use descriptive design to present strategic actions of the

different schools. On the other hand, correlation design will be used to compare the

different schools in terms on their interventions towards their monitoring and evaluation

systems. The subject will be observed in a completely natural and unchanged natural

environment.

Moreover, the study is a quantitative research. The purpose for using quantitative

methods is to capture the details of the monitoring and evaluation systems in every tertiary

school through a structured rubric or questions. The guided rubrics are composed of
questions relating to the monitoring and evaluation system in an institution. The study will

isolate the independent and dependent variables and determine the frequency and

magnitude of their relationships.

Research Locale / Setting

This study will be conducted in all tertiary schools in Bislig City namely University

of Southeastern Philippines (USeP – Bislig Campus), De La Salle John Bosco College

(DLSJBC), Andres Soriano College of Bislig (ASCB), Saint Vincent de Paul Diocesan

College (SVPDC) and Southern Technological Institute of the Philippines (STIP). USeP is

located in Brgy. Maharlika and the other schools are in Brgy. Mangangoy. The

abovementioned schools are situated in the province of Surigao del Sur.

Population and Participants of the Study

The respondents of the study are mainly the head of office, coordinators, school

deans and administration officers in an institution. These officers and staffs are coming

from the different colleges and university present in Bislig City which is presented in the

aforementioned part of this chapter. The participants of this study should cooperate to

ensure the reliability of the results and justify their respective monitoring and evaluation

systems. Moreover, the output of this study shall serve as significant input in the

development of future plans of the different schools.

schools in Bislig City. It also shows the population percentage of the participants.
Sampling Design

A purposive sampling technique is to be used to obtain the sample size from the

population. It is one of the classifications of a non - probability sampling wherein a sample

is necessary or the opinion of experts in a particular field is the topic of interest, which will

best enable you to answer your research questions. Sampling plays a great role in the

methodology of the study because it is not possible to acquire information or data from the

universe or the whole population to answer the research’s questionnaire accurately.

Research Instruments

The selection of appropriate instruments that will be used in this study is very

important. The data collection instruments used to collect the primary data will be template

of a monitoring and evaluation system sheet wherein the participants will fill in the required

information to a respective question. This instrument will be spearheaded and distributed

by the researcher to the respective respondents of the study. It shall provide feedback to

the administrations and offices different tertiary schools on their performances. The said

template is categorize by the following areas:

1. OPERATIONAL PLAN TEMPLATE

In every activity, it is necessary to indicate which institutional target

is being addressed to ascertain alignment to the schools’ goal. Operational

plan template indicates the owner and collaborator as responsibility center

of each activity.

2. ACTION PLAN TEMPLATE

Present actions that will take to support the strategic objectives and

plans of an institutional management. The bases for the development of an

action plan is the operational plan of an institution.

3. INSTITUTIONAL GOALS

It presents the different goals from different tertiary schools. It also

shows indicators in achieving institutional goals whether it is being

accomplished.

4. STRATEGIC AREAS OF CONCERN

In a monitoring activities, it should be guided by the strategic areas

of concern, institutional goals and enablers. The strategic areas of concern

of an institution varies from their goals and strategic plans.

Statistical Analysis

The data will be analysed by descriptive statistics. Descriptive statistics provide simple

summaries about the sample and the measures (e.g. frequency tables, percentages, mean

and standard deviation). Mean scores and standard deviation were computed to acquire the

averages and deviation levels of the variables.

Data Gathering Procedure

The study will use the quantitative data collection method which rely on random

sampling and structured research instruments into predetermined response categories. It

will be done through a form of template.

Before conducting a survey, all the requirements that will be needed in the conduct

of the survey will be facilitated beforehand such as formal request letters to the head office

to the different schools to ensure politeness and courteousness. The research tools will be

prepared before using in the conduct of the study.

The researcher will then introduce the purpose of conducting the study and give

general and specific instructions on how to respond to each questions in the template. The

participants will be given an ample time to have their responses towards the template.

Thereafter, the researcher will collect the template that will contain the different responses

from the participants of the study.
