The Energy and Sustainability
Specialisation within the Bachelor of
Engineering (Mechanical) curriculum at
NUS is where you are equipped with the
advanced interdisciplinary skills required to
analyse, design, optimise and evaluate the
technical and economic viability of energy
systems. You learn about traditional and
alternative energy sources, as well as
the science and technology of energy
conversion and storage, all within the

The need for energy efficiency is a
particularly pressing concern in Asia due
to expanding economies and growing
populations. The Singapore Government
has targeted a 35% improvement in
energy efficiency from the 2005 level by
2030. In response, the Singapore Certified
Energy Manager (SCEM) programme
trains and certifies engineers in technical
and managerial functions related to
energy efficiency, and is recognised
