Leave to Live a New Lifestyle

by Trisha O. Valeros

Indulging oneself in physical fitness activities on a weekly basis is important no matter how old or
young you are. Remaining physically active even in our older years is essential too in order to stay fit and
healthy.

Be like the ever active and patient English head teacher of the English Department, Ma’am Imelda
Montes, 65 years old without any sickness, who does her work conscientiously and patiently as she
regularly does the “rounds” to do physical observations on classes and the surroundings in the Grade 8
building. If teenagers nowadays already rant about simply going up the third or fourth floor of their
building, then they must definitely be humbled with the kind of exercise Ma’am Imee does every day of
her life as a responsible head teacher—doing class observations from one building to another and
checking on Grade 8 building as well.

As she retires, she may perhaps engage in physical fitness activities to keep her body fit and
healthy. These are simple activities such as swimming and brisk walking.

Swimming helps to burn more calories and build up more muscle mass. It is also an ideal activity
if a person suffers from arthritis as the water can take up to 90% of the body’s weight. Also, she can try
brisk walking. Going on a walk can get the blood pumping around the body without putting too much
unnecessary strain on the cardiovascular system, leading to a decrease in the risk of stroke. Both
swimming and brisk walking are good for the lungs as well and can be really enjoyable especially when
there’s no more responsibilities or paper works to mind, like what this dear head teacher is about to finally
experience.

Engaging herself on these physical activities and perhaps other hobbies which are equally
important to her will allow her to continue living a healthy and active lifestyle—the one that she always
had as a teacher, head teacher, leader, mentor, and even mother to us all.
