Executive Summary

The following documents demonstrate various skills involved in word processing,

such as formatting, tables and tabs. Along with these skills, I have also written a few
opinionated papers on subjects such as cloud computing. Reading this, you will gain
some insight on my life, as well as some fairly random information that you probably
don’t need. I hope you have an enlightening experience reviewing the Me Report.

About Me

My name is Peter James Kalnay. Born in Richmond hill, I lived the first half of my
life in Bolton. My family moved to Mono in early summer after the end of grade four. I
attended Ellwood Memorial PS from grades K to 4, and went to Island Lake PS from
grades 5 to 8. I live with my mother, father, brother, sister, and cat. I enjoy running in the
summer and playing hockey in the winter. My main passion however, is reading.
Fantasy sci-fi, and non-fiction science are my favourite genres. Areas of science in
which I have the most interest, are biology, paleontology, geology, chemistry, and
space/physics; mostly everything. That being said, thank you for reading this brief
introduction.

My Word Processing Skills

The only two word processors that I really have experience with, are Google
docs and Microsoft word. For both of the two I can use basic formatting for text; things
such as margins, fonts, tabs, and so forth. There are some ways these can be useful in
other classes, mostly English but any other class that involves writing. Perhaps Science
or Geography. Some of these ways include:
➢ Simply making the text look better (size, colour, font).
➢ Making tables to better organize data.
➢ Using tabs, alignment and lists (such as this) to better space different parts of the text.
Some ways that one can be more efficient with a word processor include:
➢ This is not limited to word processors, but typing is often faster than writing.
➢ You can use spell check or auto correct to quickly alert you of, or fix errors.
➢ Tables are a very quick way of showing information.
This is only a small portion of what word processors have to offer, and there are many
other ways to utilise them.

Cloud Computing

After research, I can conclude that cloud computing is very good. Costly and
too-small storage is a thing of the past, with a cloud’s nearly infinite storage space. One
single device can only hold so much information, but storing online can hold almost
unlimited data. This small fact alone, greatly puts cloud computing in favour. Cloud
storage also comes at a minimal cost, unlike many other programs needed for individual
devices. For the most part, one can access the cloud on any device, although you do
need a good internet connection. This is probably the greatest part of cloud computing,
and is useful in a plethora of ways.

One basic example is schoolwork, such as the writing I am doing now. I’m
currently on a school computer, and if I needed to work on this at home, I would be
unable to without cloud storage. Like many other people, I do not have a laptop that I
can carry everywhere; so without storage across devices, I would be technologically
crippled. Yet another pro of cloud computing is sharing across platforms, making it easy
for multiple people to work on a single piece at once. Unfortunately, there are a few
downsides to using cloud storage.

As stated before, you need a good internet connection to cloud compute, which
can be bad if you’re in remote areas. Storing online can also be simpler and have less
options when compared with local storage. Perhaps the largest downside to cloud
storage is insecurity. Being online, clouds are vulnerable to hackers, making it riskier to
store sensitive information. That being said, many cloud systems have increased
security measures.

All this on the table, the pros of cloud computing significantly outweigh the cons,
and life without it would be a lot more difficult. I believe cloud computing at least paves
the path to the way of the future, and is certainly the way of the modern era. Thank you
for reading this brief paper on why cloud computing is important to modern society.

Description of Sample Documents

At the end of this report I have three sample documents. Appendix 1 is a

business letter example that I wrote to my parents. This document required knowledge
of a business letter format, and text alignment. In said letter, I am asking my parents to
buy a flying car prototype. A formal business letter probably isn’t the best way to
communicate such an informal message, however if I was talking to someone such as
an employer or fellow businessman, this format would be much more appropriate.
Appendix 2 is an upgraded version of my school timetable. To create the table, I needed
to use my knowledge of text alignment, table making and merging, line formatting and
fonts and colour. The timetable shows the times of my classes, the teachers, the block,
and the different day schedules. I believe that this is the best way to represent my
schedule, because it’s very easy to read and find information. My last appendix,
Appendix 3, is a small chart which displays data about five different types of extinct
animals. Creating this required knowledge of tab stopping. To show information of the
kind that is on Appendix 3, either a conventional table, or a tab stop chart is the best
way to communicate information.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this report has demonstrated various word processing skills, and
also some of my opinions on different subjects. The main thing to take away from this, is
just how many options are available when representing data. The world of computing is
a wide one, and there is no reason not to take advantage of it.

Dear Mr Kalnay and Mrs King:

Hello there Mom and Dad, I hope that you are having a good day. I would like to speak
to you about buying a flying car. There are already a few prototypes on the market, and
I believe that this would be well worth the money. The main reason you should consider
getting a vehicle like this is how fast we could get to further places, such as the cottage.

With just a quick and easy license, the sky would be ours. The car/plane hybrids do not
need a runway, and can easily traverse the air or Earth. Well in the sky, the vehicles
can fly at around 200 kilometres an hour. This is far faster than driving, not to mention
there’s no traffic in the skies. Furthermore the wings can fold up, making a trip to the
store no more hindering than normal. Perhaps the best reason to get this however, is
how awesome it is. Driving a flying car would never get old, and there is no better option
available. Please consider the pros of this decision.

Before I finish, I’d just like to remind you that this could change our lives for the better.
We could go faster than ever before, and never worry about being late. The future is
here. Why not embrace it while you still can. Thank you for taking the time to read this,
and for considering my proposition. If you need to consult me, you shall find in the first
room on the left, upstairs.

Sincerely,
Peter J. Kalnay
