Equilibrium of Coplanar forces
1. Two Spheres A and B of Weight 1000 N and 750 N respectively are kept as shown in the figure
Determine the reactions at all contact points 1,2,3,4. Radius of A=400mm and Radius of B=
300mm {May 11}

2. Determine the reactions at a point of contact 1,2 and 3. Assume smooth Surfaces

mA=1 Kg mB=4Kg RA=1 cm RB=4 cm.{DEC 11}

3. A smooth circular cylinder of weight W and Radius R rests in a V shaped groove whose sides
are inclined at angles α and β to the horizontal as shown. Find the reactions RA and RB at the
points of Contact. {Dec 12}

4. Two Identical cylinders 100 mm weight 200N are placed as shown. All contacts are smooth.
Find out reactions at A, B and C. {May 13}

5. Two Identical rollers each of weight 500N and radius R are kept on a right angle frame ABC
having negligible weight. Assuming smooth surfaces find the reactions induced at all contact
surfaces. {DEC 12}

6. A cylinder B, WB = 1000N ,dia=40cm hangs by a cable AB=40cm rests against a smooth wall.
Find out reaction at C and TAB {May 13}

7. Two Spheres A and B are resting in a smooth trough as shown in figure. Draw the FBD of A and
B showing all forces acting on them both in magnitude and direction. Radius of A and B are
250 and 200mm respectively.

8. A bar is hinged at A and rests on cylinder at C. AC=500mm, CB=300mm, diameter of cylinder is


400mm and its weight is 200N. The distance of the centre of the cylinder is 500mm. From A
and is connected to the bar by a horizontal wire OE as shown in the figure. A weight 500N is
suspended at B: Determine
(i) Reaction of Hinge A
(ii) Tension in the wire
(iii)Reactions at C and D
Neglect the weight of bar and assume all surfaces smooth

9. Three Cylinders are pilled up in a rectangular channel as shown in figure. Determine the
reactions at point 6 between cylinder A and vertical wall of Channel. {May’ 10}

Cylinder A: radius =4cm, m=15kg


Cylinder B: radius=6cm m=40kg
Cylinder C: radius=5 cm m=20kg

20. Two Prismatic bars AB and CD are welded together in the form of rigid T and are suspended in
a vertical plane as shown in figure. Determine angle Ө that the bar will make with vertical
length a load of 100N is applied at the end D. Two bars are identical and each weighing 50N

21. Find the support reactions at A and B

22. Find the support reactions at A, B and C from the rigid link DEF supported by cylinder at D and
F. The link is loaded by force of 20kN as shown in figure. Neglect friction and self weight of link
and cylinders. Take diameters of cylinders as 200 mm and DE=EF=300mm
