Most teens and adolescents of this generation are facing life threatening situations, and
options. Some of these things are vaping, drug abuse, mental illness, and suicide. But the one
that im going to cover in this document is depression and suicide. Depression and suicide are
both extremely dangerous to people, because it gets in the way of normal everyday lives and
school. People do not think depression is serious because it is “something to ignore” but its not,
it's actually extremely dangerous because depression can lead to suicide. People should care for
these things because they are taking people away from their normal selves and their family and
friends. If we do not do anything about it alot of people will go suicidal and kill themselves.
There are specific things to depression like thoughts of wishing you were dead violent
outbursts and a ton of mood swings. Depression is feeling like you are tired all of the time and
starting to dislike the things that you love and do every day. Its like I said earlier depression
takes people away from their normal everyday lives and their friends and family. Depression can
also lead to drug abuse, other mental illnesses and even suicide. So depression is no joke to just
look over its a very serious mental illness. In 1980 to 1995 the attempts for suicide jumped up
233% (Borowsky 1), This shows that a lot of people suffer from suicide and need help because
all the people who did try to commit suicide probably all did not have the help they needed. I
remember reading this article that said a teenager was about to jump out of his window and

commit suicide, because he thought his parents were extremely mad at him, right when he was
about to jump his mom walked, him mom then helped him off the roof and then he never wanted
to try and commit suicide again. This proves if you just ask for help from your parents or friends
then they can help you through it. Which brings me to my next point.
There are more than just one solution to depression and suicide, just like counseling and
just asking people for help. Counseling is one of the most popular solutions but asking your
friends for help might be the best if you have people around you that care for you, you might not
know it but if you have at least one friend that you can count on they can be the best help you
can actually receive. But some people don't have those kind of people in their life and that's what
might cause depression and suicidal thoughts, That's one of the cons of friends. Another con is
that some people who you think are your best friend might be fake and might lie behind your
back and not fulfill stuff like promises. Counseling also has its pros and cons. For example one
of the pros is that people who take counseling can actually have a three times less of a chance to
commit suicide. But one of the cons it that is\t has a chance it can get worse, because when
people are in an office with a doctor or professional, they think something might be wrong with
them. There are other programs and companies that are helping to fix these problems. Just like
Add Health. Add Health is a program that is studying adolescents in grades 7 through 12, to see
how to help them, including their mental health behaviors and the many stress causing things in
their lives. There are many other programs that help with suicide and depression, but statistically
So in conclusion I Believe that, depression is a very serious mental health issue. It can
lead to drug abuse and even worse suicide. Suicide is extremely serious it takes people away
from their famies and friends. This is why I think the best solution for depression and suicide is
counseling, because with counseling it's guaranteed that you have someone you can talk to and
they will always be available unlike some friends who are fake and some who aren't always
available. Counseling can help people from depression, which can lead to drug abuse, alcohol
