Pressure Test Procedure of the CO2 Piping for

Suppressed Fire Fighting System at Switchgear Building

1) Close all openings of the piping: replace the nozzles with caps or plugs.
2) Inform all personnel to keep clear of the area to ensure that no one is injured due to
faulty installations that may open during the pressure testing.
3) Connect all cylinders as specified to the system, to ensure that no gas will escape
through the manifold.
4) Ensure that the cylinder batteries are blocked against accidental release through the
control piping. At best disconnect the control piping after the valves from the control
distribution manifold.
5) Test pressure shall be 60 bar. To build up the test pressure of, either use one cylinder of
the CO2 extinguishing cylinders or connect a sufficient air supply.
6) When using one of the cylinders, carefully open the cylinder by hand
7) When using a separate air supply for the pressure testing, find a suitable connection
point where to install a supply point to the extinguishing system.
8) To check fo r leaks, go along the piping and listen for escaping gas. Additionally a
pressure gauge may be installed to monitor the pressure over a time interval of about
10 minutes. If no pressure gauge is available use for example soap water and check the
fitting b y applying the soap water and looking for bubbles
9) After the piping has been found in order, close the cylinder or the air supply
10) To safely release the pressure out of the extinguishing system, carefully open one valve
of the control manifold. When conducting the pressure test with CO2, be sure to vent the
room where the CO2 is released prevent any damage to the personnel.
11) When using a cylinder for the pressure test be sure to refill the cylinder after the test has
been completed at a certified filling station.
