AIR CONDITIONING AND VENTILATION SYSTEM

1.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

The work covered by this part of the specifications consist in performing all
operations in connection with the supply and installation of the air conditioning and
ventilating systems and applicable drawings and subject to terms and conditions of the
Contractor.

1.1 The contract drawings indicate the extent and general


arrangement of the air conditioning and ventilating systems. If
the contractor deems departures from the drawings necessary,
details of such departures and the reason therefore shall be made
without the prior unwritten approval of the Architect or his
authorized representative.

1.2 APPLICABLE DRAWINGS:

All materials, machineries and equipment to be furnished


shall be of the required quality used on good commercial and trade
practice and shall be essentially the standard products of reputable
manufacturers. The acceptability of these items including their
workmanship and method of installation shall be established by the
following:

a. The Philippine Mechanical Engineering Code


b. The Philippine Electrical Code
c. American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
Engineers (ASHRAE)
d. Fire Code of the Philippines
e. American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
f. National Fire Protection Associations (NFPA)
g. American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM)
h. Air Moving and Conditioning Associations (AMCA)
i. American National Standard Institute (ANSI)
j. National Electrical Manufacturing Associations (NEMA)
k. Underwriters Laboratory (UL)

SPECIFICATIONS
As soon as practicable, after date of the award of the
contract, a complete schedule of equipment proposed for the
installation shall be submitted for the approval of the Architect
showing dimensions and arrangement of the equipment and
necessary clearances. The schedule shall include catalogs,
diagrams, and drawings. In the event any items or equipment
contained if the schedule fails to comply with the specifications,
such item may be required.

1.4 SHOP DRAWINGS:

As soon as practicable after award of the contract and prior


to the installation complete shop drawings, showing the sizes and
the type of equipment, together with complete piping layout
equipment layout and electrical connections shall be submitted to
the Architect for approval. This holds true also for the air
distribution ductwork and actual diffuser locations.

1.5 AS-BUILT PLANS:

Within a reasonable period but not exceeding ninety (90)


days from date of acceptance of the installation “AS-BUILT”
drawings shall be furnished to the building Owner thru the
Architect. The As-Built plans shall include all contract drawings
with the necessary revisions and modification resulting in change
from the original drawings, supplemented by such schematic,
isometric, or other types of drawings as may be necessary to
provide a clear understanding of installed systems As-Built. Size
20”x30”.

1.6 LOCAL LAWS AND ORDINANCE:

Aside from herein specified the equipment and materials to


be furnished and the installation of the systems should conform to
local laws, codes and other ordinances that are in force.

1.7 If there are discrepancies between these specifications and other


drawings the Architect should be consulted.

2.0 COORDINATION OF WORKS DONE BY OTHERS:

2.1 It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to closely coordinate


his work with the works of the Building Contractor, Electrical
Contractor, Sanitary Contractor, and others to avoid conflicts and to
insure the smooth and proper installation of the project.

2.2 This contractor shall carefully check space requirements to make
sure that his equipment, air ducts, piping, dampers, motor
controllers, etc. can be installed in the spaces allotted for the same.

3.0 WORK DESCRIPTION:

3.1 WORK INCLUDED

In general the work under this section shall include but not
limited to the following items:

a. Install air cooled packaged units.

b. Furnish and install main supply air ducts as shown on the


mechanical plans. The extent of ducts is shown on the
drawings and shall include G.I. sheets insulation, hangers, and
other accessories.

c. Supply and installation of toilets ventilation system as shown in


the plans.

d. Furnish and install ventilating air duct system consisting of G.I.


sheets, hangers and other accessories

e. Furnish and install vibration isolation for all motor drives


equipment.

f. Supply and installation of all materials not shown in the


drawings nor mentioned in these specifications but are
necessary to complete the project.

g. Electronics control system to include temperature controllers,


instrumentation, gauges, wiring, conduits, and other
accessories to complete the system.

h. Electrical power system to include motor controllers. Circuit


breakers, as delineated in the drawings.

i. Finishing works, such as painting of equipment, piping,


supports, brackets or hangers and air duct as required.

j. Testing, balancing, and commissioning of piping, air ducts,


controls and electrical system.

k. Equipment and installation warranty and free monthly service


for a period of one year starting from the date of acceptance of
the system.

l. Wall grilles.

3.2 WORK NOT INCLUDED:

The following items of work are not included in this section


and other trades shall provide the same.

3.2.1 The following equipment shall be owner furnished items:

3.2.2 Flow drain for condensate disposal.

3.2.3 Electrical power feeder from the source within 5 meters of


motor driven equipment or as delineated in the drawing.

4.0 EQUIPMENT

4.1 AIR COOLED PACKAGED UNITS

4.1.1 Units shall be single-packaged type air cooled, refrigerant


and capacity as shown on the mechanical plans.

4.1.2 Compressor shall be serviceable hermetic or screw type


equipped with suitable vibration isolators, crankcase
heaters, filters driers, discharge and suction shut off valves,
and shall be located in sound attenuating compartment
within the cabinet.

4.1.3 Cabinet shall be zinc phosphate coated over galvanized


steel and pointed with Polyester baked ALKYD enamel. Unit
shall be insulated to prevent sweating and to muffle sound.

4.1.4 Evaporator coils shall be non-ferrous construction with


aluminum plate fins mechanically bonded to seamless
copper tubing and shall be fed by thermostatic expansion
valves.

4.1.5 Equipment shall be as manufactured by CARRIER, ALEN or


KOPPEL.

5.0 MATERIALS

5.1 PIPES

5.1.1 DRAIN COCKS-Provide cast brass or cast bronze plug


cocks for piping, equipment and instrument connecting vents
and drains for top sizes up to 3/8”.

6.0 AIR DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

6.1 Provide air distribution ductwork, and accessories in


accordance with the Contract document.

6.2 GENERAL

a. All ductwork shall conform to latest ASHRAE and SMACNA


requirements.

b. All ductworks shall be galvanized sheet metal unless otherwise


specified or indicated the minimum accepted sheet metal
gauge should be 26 U.S. gauges as applicable.

c. Change in duct size of shape necessitated by interference with


other works shall be made using sizes of equivalent friction
loss.

6.3 DUCT HANGERS AND SUPPORTS

All duct hangers spacing for rectangular or round duct shall


conform to latest SMACNA Standards unless otherwise specified.

6.4 SHEET METAL GAUGES

All ductwork, except otherwise specified, shall be


constructed or galvanized steel of gauges in accordance with
SMACNA requirements.

6.5 MANUAL DAMPERS

a. Install main dampers of opposed blade pattern as indicated on


the drawings.

b. Volume dampers, as shown on the drawings and as required,


shall be installed in the various branches of the ductwork. Note
that these dampers shall be separate and independent from the

registers herein after specified to be set behind supply air
grilles. Multi-blade dampers shall be provided in large ducts.

c. Volume dampers in ducts less than 12 inches in heights shall be


of the quadrant type, of heavy construction, pivoted to turn
easily, and devices, mounted on outside of the duct in an
accessible place. Splitter type dampers will not be permitted.

d. Multi-blade: Opposed blade damper shall be factory fabricated,


and used where width of single blade damper would exceed 12
inches.

6.6 AIR DIFFUSERS, REGISTER AND GRILLES

a. General: Diffusers, registers and grilles of sizes and


types indicated on the drawings.

b. Performance: Diffusers sizing shall be based on air being


introduced at design parameters as shown.

c. Finishes: Finish painting of diffuser, registers and grilles


shall be coordinated with interior decorations.

6.7 INSULATION

Air-conditioned ducts shall be insulated with 25 mm thick


fiberglass insulation, 32-kg/m³ density and complete with factory
applied re-enforced aluminum vapor barrier.
