SUBJECT: NMHG Wet Brake Axle Differential Lubricant

MODELS AFFECTED: H004 (S80-120FT), R005 (H80-120FT), S005 (H80-120FT)

DESCRIPTION: This Parts-Service Gram replaces CJ00007R00H to add the S005

model. Please discard all previous paper and electronic copies of that Gram.

Hyster Company has begun using wet brake drive axles manufactured by NMHG in all
H004 S80-120FT and certain R005/S005 H80-120FT units. Please note that these
axles only have two chambers to fill, right and left, and use ONLY HCE-102 Tractor
Hydraulic fluid John Deere JDM 20C or equivalent in both chambers. Factory fill in
Berea is Chevron 1000THF. Also please note that there is only one fill level check plug
in the axle, located in the differential area, and due to internal clearances it may take
some time for the two sides to equalize and the fluid level at the check plug
stabilize. There are no internal seals but the fluid has to make its way through the
bearings and brake pack to the differential area. Allow 5 minutes for the fluid level to
stabilize. Slight overfilling is not detrimental to the axle. Dana manufactured axles used
in certain R005/S005 series units continue to use lubricants specified in Gram
CJ00006R01H.
