Singular Indefinite plurals such as each,


neither, no one, nobody, nothing,
anybody, anything, someone, somebody,
something, everyone, everybody,
everything always takes singular verbs.
Plural Indefinite Pronouns such as
several, few, both, and many always take
plural verbs.

I. Activity
Small Group Work

Teacher will divide the class in to


5 groups. S: Students will do the activity
given to them.
Each group will receive envelop
which contains 3 cut out pictures
and words.

Students will puzzle the picture


and the words in the envelope.

T: “Okay class what you are going to do is


to assemble the cutout pictures in the
envelope, as well as arrange the words in
order to form a sentence.”

Tom was carrying a bouquet of flowers.


“Les Misérables” is a French historical
novel written by Victor Hugo.

T: “What have you observed in the


picture?
In picture number 1, what is the
subject?
What is the verb?
Does the verb agree with the subject?

 Analysis

T: “The activity we had earlier is an


example of the topic that we will be
discussing today. I will discuss additional
3 rules in subject verb agreement which
composes of collective nouns, titles of
books used as subject and using the
expression a number and the number”
T: “Rule# 14 in Grammar about
Collective nouns such as a family, class,
audience, herd, couple, committee, jury,
staff, team, group, faculty, crowd etc.,
may take either a singular or a plural
verb depending upon their use in the
sentences.

Examples:
The team is going to attack the base.
(The collective noun team is thought of
as a unit acting together as one, so the
subject team is considered as plural)

The team are arguing about the


strongest enemy.
The collective noun team is thought of
us individual members that make up the
group.

Rule #19: Titles of Books, Movies, novels,


etc. when used as subject take singular
verb

Examples:
1. “Indarapatra and Sulayman” is a
very interesting story.
2. “The Philippine Legends” is on
sale on all bookstores.

Rule #2016 The expression “the number”


takes a singular verb; the expression “a
number” takes a plural verb.

Example:

1. A number of monsters are


marching towards the castle of the
enemy.
2. The number of people who died in
battle was unmeasurable.

verb agreement. 3 points for each sentence.
