What you said about creating an air of mystery is so true. For example I ran into and hungout with a girl from grade school who I haven't seen in a few years. She
said things to me like "I think about you, wonder what's happening with your life." She wonders because she doesn't know, being a ghost actually makes people
think about you MORE it's quite ironic.

I began to know it was time to delete Facebook when I paid attention to how people were using it when we were together in public. I met a few guys for lunch one
day and one of them posted something while we were there (his food or something related to our meet up) and he spent most of the time we were there checking
to see how many "likes" his bullshit was getting instead of interacting with us.

"..it creates an air of mystery about you.  I know that sounds silly.."  Not silly at all, particularly with regard to relationships with women.  It is essential to keep a
large part of yourself unreachable to the woman in your life in order to keep her interest (love).  This applies even to a woman you are married to.

Well said.  I quit Facebook for many of the same reasons.  I knew I had a problem when I went on my last vacation with my family and my main concern was taking
pictures of us having fun so I can share them on FB so my life can look exciting to mostly people I don't really know or really like for that matter.  I'm 51 and I
started losing faith in people.  Many of my FB friends I knew from high school and it really saddened me how many of them never really matured beyond that
point.  It started to feel like an endless high school reunion where everyone was putting their past face forward and not showing you the real parts that would have

I agree. All of social media is based around narcissism and validation, and it's a big problem for our generation (millennials). It extends to online dating sites too
and will cause problems for our generation with relationships and dating, both for men and women, due to the narcissistic tendencies our generation has
developed and fostered through social media ("it's all about me, satisfy me, etc.")

Taking pictures suck. For the most part it's, STOP everything you're doing. Look at the camera and smile. That way we get the exact same photo time after time
with just different backdrops. So unique! And digital photography makes it worse. Now it's all that plus, now let's see what it looks like right now. Oh! I don't like it.
Let's take another 4-5 photos until it's just as bland and generic as the other hundreds of photos we've taken that we never do anything with because they're bland

I deleted my Facebook two weeks ago. Modest activities like chores and reading are more enjoyable because I'm not comparing my life to others'. I feel less alone
inspite of spending all of my time alone. My introversion is in sync with living privately rather than plastering my inner most thoughts on social media. Instead I
journal and take note of how my life feels to me. Not how it appears to other people. Also there's plenty of pathologically Narcissistic Facebookers. Narcissists
craft their false persona with ease while also observing your personality so they can better manipulate you. And I feel far less depressed not witnessing how

I have NEVER had a FaceBook account until about 3 months ago. Now I don't know if because I came into it in a stormy political climate, or whatever, but honestly
it only took 3 months to become completely stressed to the point I was PHYSICALLY sick! One thing that hit home for me was when you mentioned the anonymity,
I really do miss that!! And he is right, I was never on FaceBook before and was still invited to parties and school reunions and friends gatherings and family
dinners. If they are your real friend, they will nd you! It's true, you're better off without!

It's so funny. I was just checking in after 6 months off, with the full intention to never go back. I was wondering about some people and wanted to check on them. I
made the mistake of changing my pro le pic from Christmas and people responded. BF saw it and later messaged me saying look how people have missed you,
but proceeded to lecture me about how I just have to "be nice". It was basically an argument that I interpreted as him saying I can't post my political opinion just
like everybody else on his side of the divide. I told him "Good job. If you were happy to see me back, too bad. I'm not going back after all that."

I don't use Facebook to share my life with other people, they can ask me themselves, let alone share pictures.
I literally only use Facebook to make appointments with my friends and family, and there's a lot of funny shit on FB to laugh about.
Maybe it's not a big enough reason to stay on FB because there's a lot to compensate for, but it's more bene cial to me for communication.

By the way, I have noticed how easy it is to "edit" your life on facebook when you're in your 30's and up. People tend to project their expectations on you when they
can't even meet them.

I think the ideology of "If you don't post it, it doesn't exist." plays into a few things that should be considered unhealthy. Those things being making others compare
themselves to you, telling your ex where you are or have been, people knowing when you're not home, and maybe something as far fetched as people considering
you a cause for political uproar. A mock example off the last thing mentioned would be if you went to Burger King causing an upset on the far right side of the
political spectrum. Suddenly you get an in ux of hate messages and maybe begin to see strangers you have never met in your life staring at you like they know you

I deleted FB permanently but there's a catch, you have to REALLY try to nd the option for that permanent deleting, and when you con rm you want to delete it it
still gives you 14 days to come back and reactivate your account, so you have to gather all your will power or be absolutely convinced you don't want to have a FB
account to go through all of it and still not come back for 14 days. In the past month or so without having a FB I've been discovering some nasty things about other
sites related to Fb. For example in Change.org you can't sing a petition without Fb because latter they track the info you gave to Fb and made public and they sell it

Why do people show what they're doing on Facebook? The same reason you're making this video for other people to see. Because you want people to know your
experience. No different from what you're doing here. Getting likes/dislikes, validation, comments, approval, viewcount. Otherwise, you wouldn't be making this
video. You'd be off, keeping to yourself and enjoying the freedom you're claiming to have found. Why do you feel the need to go online and tell everyone that you no
longer use facebook?

My brother has said on a couple of occasions that every time he logs out of FB he feels worse than when he logged in. FB does not care about users as
individuals: it cares about spying on its users and selling their information. FB relies on people being unhappy with how they look, where they're going and what
they own in order to keep them there and make more money, and Zuckerberg has got incredibly good at lying about this. It's an addiction, one that most people
don't realise they have [like using a smartphone] and the longer people stay there, the harder they nd it to leave. I imagine many people would now nd it
