BLIND AUDIO ENTERTAINMENT

CHAPTER 1

Background of the study

Entertainment and leisure activities are important part of our lives. So does we the blind and

visually impaired. We only have limitations but we also need to be relaxed and entertained. So

we created this website that enables to gather and share audio and screen reader friendly

entertainment applications for the blind and visually impaired (Cooper & Nichols 2007).

Particularly contains audio movies, audio games, chat features, free open source screen reader

and social media applications such as TWBlue, Team Talk, Miranda (Messenger for Facebook),

etc. It also provides forum for the blind and visually impaired that tackles different categories to

share and ask different types of questions and ideas.

We created this website in order for the visually impaired to just visit one site that offers a lot of

features. A one stop site that almost caters fun and knowledgeable entertainment that suits the

needs of the blind and visually impaired.

Statement of the problem

The blind and visually impaired experiencing a hard time finding entertainment sites in the

internet. There are many entertainment websites that has been developed including websites for

the visually impaired but the main problem is that contents are not well organized, not applicable

features and has limited resources. For example, some websites only caters games, some offers

mainly for forum and others are just for audio movies. This create such hassle and time
consuming to the users. Tendency that some website may not be known because of the limited

features it offers.

Now, many blind and visually impaired are using assistive technology such as laptops, computers

and android cellphones but still they are not known to some entertainment sites that offers games,

audio movies and other entertainment package in just one website.

Objectives of the study

 To create an entertainment website for the blind and visually impaired that bridges to other

entertainment sites so that they will have easy access to the most accessible

entertainment applications and websites on the internet.

 To provide a website that has accessible and compatible entertainment contents for the

blind and visually impaired individuals.

 To create a website for the blind and visually impaired individuals that is time consuming

and easy to find entertainment sources.

Scope and Limitations

This study will focus on developing a website that caters all the necessary entertainment needs

of a blind and visually impaired individual. This website will let users to freely interact to other

peers with same disability by the use of different entertainment platforms such as Team Talk

conferencing system and other social media applications as well as other entertainment features

like online audio games, audio descriptive movies and online forum.
In addition, the blind and visually impaired individuals can share and ask for suggestions to

different kinds of problem related to various computer and internet application. Also may request

future suggestions and bug fixes.

Moreover, the proposed website will not just help the blind and the visually impaired individuals

but to enjoy and be entertained by the features it brings.

Audio description is becoming more prevalent thanks to the 21st Century Communications and

Video Accessibility Act, or CCVA. However, it’s not the only adaptations to entertainment being

made. Video games are also becoming more adaptable to the disabled community through

evolving accessibility settings, musical cues, and audio prompts.

This website only caters for the advanced or computer literate blind and visually impaired users

that also has skills and knowledge in using internet as well.

Definition of Terms

blind - unable to see because of injury, disease or a congenital condition

audio - sound, especially when recorded, transmitted, or reproduced

entertainment - the action of providing or being provided with amusement or enjoyment


Chapter II

Review of Related Literature and Systems

The literature and studies cited in this chapter tackle the different concept, understanding, and

ideas, generalization or conclusions and different development related in the creation or our

website in the name Blind Audio Entertainment.

The review was conducted primarily through internet web searches, surveys and actual

experiences. The data collected were summarized and evaluated, and used as basis for the

attainment of our goal in creating our website that we desire.

Related Literature

This study is concerned primarily with the habits and practices of the blind and visually impaired.

Our work is informed by literature that considers broader issues of the said disability as well as

by our understanding more specifically of the audio entertainment and the assistive technologies

that being used by blind and the visually impaired. It reflects in our belief that thorough research

that blind and visually impaired focuses not only on the gadgets or assistive technology they used

but they were more on the camaraderie with their same peers.
