Cooperation involves individuals or groups working together for the achievement of

their individual or collective goals. In its simplest form, cooperation may involve only
two people who work together towards a common goal. Two college students working
together to complete a laboratory experiment, or two inter-city youths working
together to protect their 'turf' from violation by outsiders are examples. In these
cases, solidarity between the collaborators is encouraged and they share jointly the
reward of their cooperation. Again at the level of two-person interactions, the goals
towards which the cooperation parties work may be consistent with each other, but
they may not be identical or shared. From the college experience again, student and
professor may cooperate towards the student's mastery of professor's discipline, but
the student may be working to make a good grade while the professor is working to
establish or reinforce his/her reputation as a good teacher. If some of their rewards
are shared, some also are individual but attainable only through joint effort. The
cooperating parties in this case may be either neutral or kindly disposed towards one
another but their relationship is not likely to have lasting solidarity.
1. Direct Cooperation:
Those activities in which people do like things together play together,
worship together, labor together in myriad ways. The essential
character is that people do in company, the things which they can
also do separately or in isolation. They do them together because it
brings social satisfaction.
2. Indirect Cooperation:
Those activities in which people do definitely unlike tasks toward a
single end. Here the famous principle of the 'division of labour' is
introduced, a principle that is imbedded in the nature of social
revealed wherever people combine their difference for mutual
satisfaction or for a common end.
3. Primary Cooperation:
It is found in primary groups such as family, neighborhood, friends
and so on. Here, there is an identity end. The rewards for which
everyone works are shared or meant to be shared, with every other
member in the group. Means and goals become one, for cooperation
itself is a highly prized value.
4. Secondary Cooperation:
It is the characteristic feature of the modern civilized society and is
found mainly in social groups. It is highly formalized and specialized.
Each performs his/her task, and thus helps others to perform their
tasks, so that he/she can separately enjoy the fruits of his/her
cooperation.
5. Tertiary Cooperation:
It may be found between 2 or more political parties, castes, tribes,
religions groups etc. It is often called accommodation. The two
groups may cooperate and work together for antagonistic goals.
Cooperation is important in the life of an individual that it is difficult
for man to survive without it. C.H. Cooley says that Cooperation
arises only when men realize that they have a common interest. They
have sufficient theme, intelligence and self control, to seek this
interest through united action.
The people of a country co-operate with one another. Workers in an
office or a factory or a field, soldiers in the field of battle, various
wings of the army, air force, navy, ministers in a cabinet, jailors and
prisoners, police and the public, the thieves and the thieves, the
robbers and the robbers, the cut throats and the cut throats, the
assassins and the assassins, the aggrieved and the aggrieved, the
tyrant and the tyrant, the rich and the rich, the poor and the poor,
the sick and the sick, the holy men and the holy men, the patriots
and the patriots, all co-operate with one another.

Although the priests, the pundits, the so called attendants (the

agents) in the temples, the mosques, the churches, (though they do
not co-operate with the common people) co-operate, even conspire
with the God, it is through these attendants, that He showers His
blessings or let lose His wrath upon the bad people of the world.

Co-operation has great value, virtue, vastest application and

importance. Although in the world of today Co-operation is confused
with corruption, yet the two terms are not synonyms.

The lesson of co-operation can be learnt from the bees, the ants and
other such creatures. The tiny creatures – the ants, and the bees and
the wasps teach us many things – unity team work, fellow feeling.
Team work is the key to success. Although team work is so far the
monopoly of animal world, yet animals have taught much to human
beings only if we humans could be a little less selfish in actions and
dealings.Human beings are like the organ of the body. When fortune
frowns on a person, other fellow-beings of the afflicted person cannot
or should not remain, unaffected. If there is pain in any part of the
body, the other parts also know no rest.
“Nobody’s work is held up for want of another’s help” is not correct.
In fact every body’s work is held up for want of every body’s help. No
one in the world is indispensable. Nothing can be done single handed
in the world. Even our two hands co-operate with each other, the two
feet co-operate with each other, all the parts of the body co-operate
with one another, the members of a family co-operate with one
another.

Cooperation between people helps to Raise achievement of students,

Build positive relationships among students - important for creating a
learning community that values diversity. Provide experiences that
develop both good learning skills and social skills.

Hopefully you have already had some successful experiences with

cooperation with people and you can relate to many of the benefits
listed above. If you haven't had any experiences with team or group
work, or if you have only had bad experiences, don't worry! It takes
time, patience, and persistence. The more you learn how to
