Find your partner
Pre-Lesson  Teachers appoints sixteen pupils; eight will be pupils A (root 21st Century Learning skills:
words) and the other eight will be pupils B (third person singular Collaborative
words).
 Divide the pupils into a group of four. Each group will get one
Pupil A. Pupils B will be in front of the class.
 Each group need to match Pupil A to their corresponding partner
(Pupil B).
Put the pictures in the correct order
Lesson  Using one of the pictures from the story entitled “Charlie’s 21st Century Learning skills:
Development Birthday Surprise 1”, teacher introduces the characters of the Thinking Skills
story.
Formative Assessment:
 Put all four pictures on the board, in an incorrect order.
Peer Assessment
 Ask pupils to listen to the story and think about which order the

pictures go in. Play the CD (Track 16).
 Check pupils’ answers and play once again if necessary.
 Ask pupils to talk about each frame with guidance/prompt by the
teacher
 Ask a few further questions about the pictures that relate to the
focus of the story (e.g. about karate, China, etc.). Ask pupils what
they think of the story. [M.S. 1.2.3]

Phonics
 Play the CD and have pupils listen and point the first time.
 Play the CD again and have pupils listen, point and repeat.
 Ask pupils to work in pairs to find examples of /s/ and /z/ in the
story. They listen to the CD (Track 16) again to check their
answers. [C.S. 1.1.1]
Distinguish the sound
Post-Lesson  Pupils listen to a chant and circle the /s/ sounds with red, the /z/ Formative Assessment
sounds with blue and /ɪz/ sounds with green. Quick Scan
