Geo-Strategic location of Pakistan

Introduction
While history has been unkind with Pakistan. It’s geography has been
it’s greatest benefit.
The strategic location of Pakistan is unique because of being a close
neighbor to Middle East,having a common border with china iran india
and Afghanistan and less than 100km distance from central asian
republic states.
Borders of Pakistan

Towards east Pakistan shares Punjab-rajhistan border with india which


is 1650km long

Towards west Afghanistan and Durand line is present having length of


2250 km long
Pakistan-iran border is 909 km long

Towards south lies the Arabian sea and the Indian ocean. The coastal
belt is about 700 km
Significance

Pakistan is located in the junction of great powers. These great powers


include massive and gigantic Russia and the rising superpower china.
Any alliance among world powers enhances its significance. Security
and business are the two main interests of U.S in this region while
Pakistan is playing a frontline role in the war against terrorism. U.S
interests alson include thegrowing china, nuclear iran terrorist
Afghanistan and to benefit from the market of india.
Gateway to Central asia
Central asia is the cenntre stage for new great games. There is a quest
for oil and energy resources in central asia.

Pakistan is located very close to the oil rich middle eastern countries.
The belt starts from iran and extends to saudia Arabia. Thus Pakistan
can influence shipment of oil. In the energy scarce world Pakistan is
located in the hub of energy rich countries. Iran and Afghanistan both
are energy rich countries while india and china are lacking.
Significance as a transit economy
Pakistan has a potential to develop transit economyby using its
stratgical location. China with its fastest economy growth rate of 9%
and developing southern provinces because its own part is 4500 km

moreover Pakistan offers central asian regions the shortest route of
2600 km as compared to iran 4500 km or turkey 5000 km. gawadar

capability which ha great influence political social activities in the
region

Pakistan is a developing country confronting numerous problems and
grave energy crisis yet on the other hand its nuclear program has
significantly elevated its importance in the international community.

In short, situated in the south asia Pakistan is a gateway to the central


asia and its Arabian sea provide an access to the middle eastern
countries.
the most important gift bestowed upon Pakistan by nature is its
location and if it is used wisely Pakistan can become the hub of
international trade and commerce. Resulting in the opening of new
doors for the progress and prosperity of its people.
