TITLE: Exploring the Classroom Etiquette and Manners of Junior High School Students at Our Lady of
Fatima University, Quezon City Campus
OBJECTIVE: Several studies have found that manners and etiquette are increasingly dying out. Other
findings have shown that there is a significant relationship between positive behavior and academic
achievements of students. For these reasons, our study aims to explore the classroom etiquette and
manners of Junior High School students at Our Lady of Fatima University, Q.C. Campus.
BRIEF BACKGROUND: Etiquette and manners go hand in hand. Etiquette is the accepted code of
behavior among people and manners are the reflection or expression of one’s inner character. To put it
briefly, one is guided by the rules of etiquette to be able to practice manners. As students, we sought to
explore the viewpoint of other students towards the subject matters discussed when applied inside the
classroom.
How would Junior High School students define proper classroom etiquette and manners?
From their perspective, what are the manners and etiquette that should be followed/ practiced of
utmost importance?
What circumstances can they think of wherein they fail to observe classroom etiquette?
What do they do or how do they react when a fellow student fails to show proper manners?
For the students: To be reminded of the proper behavior one should have, not just inside the
classroom but in every situation.
For the teachers: They may acquire additional knowledge about classroom management that
can help teach students to always act accordingly.
For the society: This study may help the society develop more individuals that are well
mannered and educated.
PROPOSED METHOD: This is a qualitative study that will be conducted through one-on-one interviews.
