The Philippine Daily Nutritional Guide Pyramid

Food and Nutrition Research
Institute (FNRI) in 1997.
• It showcases the local foods and
venerable culinary traditions of the
country.
• She urges a return to traditional
dietary patterns, which, if eaten in
sufficient quantity, have much be
gained from the health standpoint.

• The DNG Pyramid is a simple,
trustworthy guide in choosing a
healthy diet. It builds from the base,
showing that we should eat more
foods from the bottom part of the
pyramid like vegetables, whole grains
and less from the top such as red
meat, sugar, fats and oils.

 Eat a variety of foods everyday to obtain the nutrients and other substances
needed for good health.
 Increase intake of iron-rich foods
 Increase intake of high fiber foods
 Increase intake of calcium-rich foods
 Choose and prepare foods with little salt and consume potassium-rich foods.
 Drink enough fluids.
 Get enough rest
 Prepare, handle and store food safely.
 Have a regular, moderate exercise like walking.
 Do not smoke and drink alcoholic beverages.

 Serve a wide variety of foods which are colorful and palatable.
 Serve breakfast daily.
 Include milk in the child’s daily diet or add milk in other foods.
 Give your child meals that are rich in iron and vitamins A, C and D.
 Serve 2-3 servings each of fruits and vegetables everyday.
 Do not serve sweet foods before the main meal.
 Choose good source of protein. Limit intake of foods high in fat.
 Make sure that your child makes the right food choices at school or prepare a
healthy packed lunch.
 Practice safe food storage, handling, preparation and service.
 Encourage your child to be active.
