1. Three (3) Things that I significantly learned from the readings

I learned that during the Spanish colonization, there were already Chinese people
in the Philippines and a lot more than the Spaniards and also, there is already a trade
relations between China and the Philippines. Unlike now, in that that current timeline, the
economic status in the Philippines rose to the top because there is three different economic
status, namely the western, native and Chinese economy. Lastly, I learned that after some
time in the Spanish colonization, there were social distinctions because they have three
different cultures that’s why a royal order was placed by the Spaniards to make all the
Chinese leave the Philippines.

2. Three (3) Things that are still unclear to me

Three things that are still unclear to me are ; (1) The cultural stereotyping
which came out from cultural pluralism and social distinctions specifically from the
Chinese to the Spaniards; (2) the policy of the Spaniards to keep apart non-Catholic
Chinese and the non-Catholic “Indios” and lastly; (3) the decision of the Spaniards as to
let Chinese live while they rule the Philippines if they have a conflict between them

3. I used to think that….

Chinese were not a part of countries who colonized the Philippines in the past, I
didn't know anything about them before reading the article or that they are somewhat
significant to the Philippines history or that they were already here when the Spaniards
colonized the Philippines.

4. Three (3) questions that I want to ask about the readings

Three things that I really want to be answered are; (1) Did the Catholicism affected
the views or the way the Spaniards think/see to the Philippine Chinese? ; (2) It is clear that
the Spaniards goal is to catholicize and hispanize the Philippines and all the other
inhabitants like Chinese, were they successful and how did they do it?; (3) Lastly, As the
goal of the Spaniards were to catholicize the Filipinos and even the Chinese who are
inhabiting in the Philippines at that time, how did the Chinese accept the Catholicism from
the Spaniards when they were not on good terms with the Spaniards?
