Kingspan’s range of insulated panels have been successfully used across the globe on retail, dis-
tribution, coldstore, commercial, industrial, leisure, hospital and education projects. The perform-
ance advantages of Kingspan Insulated Panel Systems are well recognised by property investors,
building owners, designers and contractors.
We are prepared to make the changes necessary to deliver on our promises in terms of: corporate
responsibility, environmental sustainability, end of life management and health & safety.
We invest heavily in Research and Development and our Product Development Team are constantly
assessing market needs and designing solution tat meet our customers’ requirements. Our dedicated
R&D facility allows us to fully test and develop products, ensuring optimum quality and performance.
We are always looking to improve the services offered to make life easier before, during and after the
construction process.
This guide, drawing on Kingspan’s 40 years’ experience in manufacturing state of the art solutions
for the construction industry, intends to provide designers, investors and constructors active
on the coldstore market with a choice of technical, design, product and material solutions to enable
a time and cost efficient construction process, as well as trouble free maintenance and reduced opera-
tional costs throughout the life of the building.
Food Processing
Controlling food processing areas is easy with KS1150 TF, TC and TL insulated panel sys-
tems. Temperatures within the building can be managed and most importantly the surfaces
are equipped with hygiene safe coatings, which resist moisture ingress and eliminate any risk
of toxic mould or bacterial growth.
Clean Room
KS1150 TF, TC and TL panel systems are FIBREfree and therefore provide a controlled sterile
environment minimizing airborne particles and micro-organisms.
Kingspan have considerable and proven knowledge in these sectors which is supported
by successfully completed projects for some of the largest brand names who operate in the
retail, food supply chain, confectionery, distribution, logistic and food processing sectors.
Kingspan technical and construction design support is available to investors, design teams
and contractors in any phase of project design and execution.

Correctly installed, Kingspan insulated panels guarantee complete gas and vapor tight seal,
thus qualifying the system to be used in controlled atmosphere environments
Integral IPN core of tightly packed cells eliminates the appearance of air gaps within the in-
sulation
The tongue and groove joint interfit to achieve excellent thermal performance. There are no
air gaps (and thermal bridges) along the joint
Reduced thermal loss (gain) results in considerable energy and cost savings
Kingspan insulated panels’ thermal and structural properties, as well as the wide range of available
panel thicknesses, uniquely qualify KS1150 TL, TF and TC panels for use in all types of applications
– chilled store, deep freeze, food processing – which require a controlled temperature environment
(“box in box” assembly)
The recommended maximum heat loss for insulation of cold store envelopes is 10W/m2.
(See IACSC Code of Practice for the Design of Coldstore Envelopes).
Air pressure considerations. The process of cooling or thawing of large quantities of food stored in air-
tight spaces causes considerable alterations in air pressure due to the contraction/expansion of theinterior
atmosphere. Rapid pressure changes may result in damages of the insulated box system, and in extreme
cases (eg. self contained boxes) in collapse of the structure. Therefore, especially in case of panel enve-
lopes operating in negative temperatures, compensatory pressure valves need to be installed into walls or
ceilings. The dimensions and the number of the valves shall be determined by a specialist.
Fire resistance of non-loadbearing exterior walls is tested in accordance with European Norm
EN 1364-1. The purpose of the test is to assess the material’s performance as a barrier to fire pen-
etration through the sampled building material.
cific characteristics:
3. Roofs are classified according to the R + E + I criteria (loadbearing capacity, integrity and
insulation). For roof panel installations criteria R + E are sufficient.
The reaction to fire classification is outlined in the European Norm EN-13501-1 “Fire classification of
construction products and building elements – Part 1: Classification using test data from reaction to fire
tests”. Six primary classes are defined, where class A1 denotes the highest level of performance associ-
ated primarily with inorganic materials, whereas class F indicates a material with essentially no resistance
to ignition from a small flame.
Supplementary classification is defined for smoke emission and flaming droplets performance.
Based on these criteria Kingspan insulated panels achieve B-s1,d0 rating.
Insurers assessment
Kingspan insulated panels have been declared “fire safe” by property insurers.
Kingspan panel systems have been tested and approved to European and country specific standards and
comply with all building regulations. Furthermore, they comply with the property insurance risk require-
ments of LPCB (Loss Prevention Council Board in the UK) and the FM Global insurance company as fol-
lows:
To comply with specific fire test standards, no flash over or fire propagation occurs.
No flame spread occurs within the panel core.
Kingspan Firesafe® roof and wall systems are secured to the main/secondary frame members of the
structure to protect fire fighters.
According to EN 13828:
No lateral propagation to the sample edges
S1 According to EN 13823:
D0 According to EN 13823:
Fire regulations concentrate primarily on human life and health safety. However, a fire that poses no
threat to human life or health may still result in severe financial losses. The use of building
solutions dramatically reduces costs and damages resulting from fires:
Char forming on the IPN core surface creates No fire spread within the IPN panel core

wide range of solid and metallic colours.
Furthermore it is free of clorine, phtalates and plasticizers
and 100% recyclable.
4. Plastisol 200 µm
Plastisol is a high performance coating system with a grain
finish and a nominal thickness of 200 μm. Typical proper-
ties of Plastisol are excellent abrasion, high corrosion resis-
tance, excellent fl exibility and therefore very good scratch
resistance.
