MUSIC ACADEMY

MUSIC ACADEMY
Students who are accepted for the Music Academy are
required to meet standards in the following three areas:
1. Achievement in their school Music class
2. Participation in school activities / service to school groups
3. Performance

Three standards are awarded during a student’s time at school:

Requirements of Music Academy students

1. Students in the Academy must be taking Music as a school subject.

2. Students must be receiving weekly tuition in their instrument. This may be

either through a school itinerant tutor or a recognised private music teacher.

3. All students are required to attend all rehearsals of the school

music group/s they are assigned to. In the case of instrumental
players, this will include Concert Band rehearsals at 8:00am once
or twice weekly. Other groups rehearse at lunchtimes or after school.

4. Staff will endeavour to provide opportunities for students to perform.

However, students should take the initiative to seek performances
opportunities both within and outside the school. These might include
outside examinations, competitions, Musica Viva, “Reach for the Stars”
talent quest, musical theatre productions, etc.

Goals
Goals will be set for all Academy students in conjunction with the Head of
Department. These will be set at the beginning of each year, and reviewed
as required during the year.
