LESSON PLAN IN HEALTH 8

in the prevention and control of communicable
diseases for the attainment of individual wellness
PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learner consistently demonstrates personal
responsibility and healthful practices in the prevention
and control of communicable disease.

I. Subject Matter

Topic: Most Common Communicable Diseases and Its Prevention and Control

Materials: laptop, picture

II. Objective:
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a) determine the most common communicable diseases
b) cite the importance of communicable diseases and its prevention
c) perform a role play about the health practices in order to prevent and
control communicable diseases

III. Procedure
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of attendance
 Review
 The teacher will ask some student to have a short recap about the
lesson last meeting.
IV. Lesson Proper

A. Activity

 The teacher will show some pictures and tell the students that
answering “yes” means stand up and answering “no” means sit
down.

B. Analysis

 What did you understand from the pictures?


 How did you relate the pictures to your daily lifestyle?
 Why is it important to be healthy?

C. Abstraction

Most common communicable diseases and its prevention and control

What is Communicable disease?

 Diseases that are spread from one person to the other.


 Diseases that are “catching”
 Diseases that are caused by germs or pathogens
1. Acute respiratory infection (ARI) – is a serious infection that
prevents normal breathing function. It usually begins as a viral infection
in the nose, trachea (windpipe), or lungs.

Prevention and Control

 Wash hands frequently, especially after having been in a public


place.
 Always sneeze into one's arm of the shirt or in a tissue. Although
this may not ease one's symptoms, it will prevent the spreading of
infectious diseases.
 Avoid touching one's face, especially eyes and mouth, to prevent
introducing germs into one's system.

2. Pneumonia- Is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both


lungs.

Prevention:

 Get vaccinated
 Practice good hygiene
 Don’t smoke
 Keep your immune system strong

3. Bronchitis- Is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes, the airways that


carry air to your lungs.
Prevention and control:

 Don’t smoke
 Eat a healthy diet
 Wash your hands
 Take your medicine exactly the way your doctor tells you.

4. Influenza – Is a viral infection that attacks your respiratory system- the


nose, throat, and lungs.

Prevention and control:

 Wash your hands


 Cover your mouth and nose
 Smiling
 Eat healthy
 Stay at home
5. Tuberculosis respiratory- Is an infectious disease caused by a
bacterium called mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Prevention and control:

 Always cover your mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
 Wash your hands after coughing or sneezing.
 Use a fan or open windows
 Don’t use other utensils like pork and spoon

6. Dengue- Is a viral infection that person suffer from a painful fever. It is


a mosquito-borne disease caused by any one of four closely related
dengue viruses.

Prevention and control:

 Clean your places


 Use mosquito repellents
 When outdoors, wear long-sleeved shirts and longs pants tucked
into socks
 If you have symptoms of dengue, speak to your doctor

7. Sexually transmitted infection (STIs) - are infections you can get by


having sex with someone who has an infection.

8. HIV and AIDS

- HIV is a virus that damages the immune system.


- AIDS is a disease that can develop in people with HIV.

D. Application
 The students will divided into 3 groups
 Each group will perform a role play about the health practices in
order to prevent and control communicable diseases
 Each group will be given a scenario.

V. Generalization
 What is communicable disease?
 What are the common communicable diseases?
 How to prevent the communicable diseases?
 Why do we need to prevent the communicable diseases?
 Why it is important to be healthy?
VI. Evaluation

Critical thinking: Analyze the following questions and write your reaction in a ½
sheet of paper (5 points each)

1. Pretend that you are a mother/ father and your daughter is sick. What
will you do?
2. Inside the classroom, your best friend/ friend fainted, what do you think
is the cause of fainting? What will you advise to your best friend/ friend
after getting conscious?

VII. Assignment/ Agreement

Research about the emerging and re-emerging diseases write in a ¼ sheet of paper.
