Description:
The Course has been designed towards
understanding of the fundamental
engineering concepts applicable to
biological engineering, recognize
key research work from academia
and industry towards practical
application, and receive hands on
training with computational and
experimental synthetic biology.

The Course Content comprises of:

Introduction to synthetic biology,
Biological parts, Microarray Data Analysis,
iGEM Ethics, Safety, Industrial Applications,
I learnt Cell Culture, Vector Construction,
Plasmid isolation, Cloning.

Outcome: Learnt fundamental concepts and applications of synthetic biology, designed a

logic gate.
2. Assessmentof Physical and Bacteriological Parameterof Ground Water Sample
ofKrishnapatanam, (M.Sc. Final Year Project) atNational Centre for Sustainable Coastal
Management (NCSCM), Anna University, Chennai.
Description:
In order to describe the existing quality of ground and coastal environmental conditions in
Krishnapatanam coastal zone, ground and coastal water samples were collected in selected
locations and analyzed for various physic-chemical and biological parameters.

Skills developed during project:

 Sampling
 Analysis of Physico-Chemical parameters and Organic pollutants
 Isolation and Characterization of Bacteria.
 Chemicals and reagents.
 Identification of Bacterial isolates.
3. DNA Barcoding of Selected Marine Gastropod specimen.

Description:
DNA barcoding is a molecular technology that allows the identification of any biological
species by amplifying, sequencing and querying the information from genic and/or
intergenic standardized target regions belonging to the extranuclear genomes” (Barcaccia,
G., et al., 2015)
The main aim was to study the effect of SM (i.e. to see the cytotoxicity in macrophages cell)
and evaluate the oxidative stress. We also focused on the activation of few pathways which
were triggered due to antioxidant condition because an antioxidant neutralizes the free
radicals. Finally COMET and DAPI staining technique was performed.

Skills developed during project:

 Identification of new /existing species, Validating Classical Taxonomy Data, Identifying

Disease Vectors, Sustaining Natural Resources, Protecting Endangered Species.

4. Plant Tissue culture.

Culture of plant tissue under very controlled and hygienic condition with sufficient supply of
nutrients to develop a whole plant, termed as PTC.

 Production of disease-free plants & Pest resistant plant.
 Plant breeding.
