IOCL INTERVIEW , DATE :4th July, 2016

Good afternoon ma'am, good afternoon sir, good afternoon everyone

M1: Good afternoon, please seat

thank you, sir.

M1: What's your name

Sir, I am Prashant Bhamu.

M1: OK Mr. Prashant, tell us briefly about yourself.

Sir, I belong to a middle class family of Sikar district of Rajasthan state. I have done my schooling
from sikar. I did 10th from K.V Sikar and 12th from Bhartiya Public School, sikar.(moving to
everyone)Then Sir, I did my Btech degree from Sobhasaria engg. College Sikar.I was academic topper
of my batch. I have done my major project on "wireless power transfer" and I did my industrial
training from PowerGrid on "equipment and Protection of EHV substation". Sir, I have also
participated in Indo-US Robo league ,which is a robotic competition .I was the winner of zonal round
and represented my college at national level also.

Chairman: What did you make in that competition

Sir, it was basically a line following robot competition.

Ch: How many members were there in your group? what was the principle used ?

Sir, we were a team of 5 members. The basic principle was to follow a black line on a white surface.
for that ,i used a pair of photodiodes and LEDs. It is a property of black surface to absorb the light
while white surface reflects it back.

Ch: So how did you put commands into robot? what components did you use?

Sir, I used an arduno microcontroller and motor driver circuit which would drive the two motors and
commands were fed through a software interfacing, in which coding was done according to the
inputs of the light sensors.

Ch: So where do you think we can use such chip practically?

(thinking that he asking about robot)Sir we can use this robot for automatic patrolling where
command can be give to follow a particular path........

Ch: Forget about robot , I m asking where can we use this chip that you are talking about?

Sir, the microcontroller chip is a general purpose chip. many kinds of robot can be made from it......

Ch:(cutting me)Doors can be retrofitted with the light sensors which would detect the presence of
a person and then can automatically unlock

(he was talking about photodiodes)

thank you sir

Ch: talk about your major project. what was the principle?
Sir, my project was based on simple principle of electromagnetic induction which is the basic principle
of a transformer , the only difference is that , wireless power transfer can take place only at high
frequencies

Ch : what frequency did you use? how many members? your role?

Sir , 25kHz was the frequency of operation. There was a team of 4 and we did everything collectively.

Ch: what was the distance of transmission . tell us briefly the working.

sir wireless power transfer can be of two types near field and far field depending upon the distance
between transmitter and receiver. the transmitter is essentially a coil which converts electrical energy
into electromagnetic energy.....

Ch: Isn't it harmful at this frequency? how did you make sure of human safety?

sir, electromagnetic waves are already present in the surroundings. we used very low voltage, 12V to
ensure that it is safe for working. also we used frequency the range of Khz which is much less than
frequency of communication which is in the range of Mhz or Ghz, and mobile towers are constantly
working in this range.

Ch: what was the distance up to which you could transmit the power? this technology is already
present , what new thing you did?

sir we could transmit the power up to 10 cm. Sir the new thing was that we could freely rotate the
receiver in 3D space. it need not be directed towards the receiver to catch the waves.

Ch: how did you do that?

Sir, we took advantage of near field which is a non-radiative region and the energy is disbursed in all
directions , so some amount will be inadvertently caught by the receiver, however efficiency will be
less.

Ch: do you think it is practically possible to achieve long distance wireless power transfer?

sir, power can be transmitted up to long distance in the form of microwaves or radiowaves but it
needs a high degree of directivity and proper alignment of transmitter and receiver.

Ch: are there any practical attempts being done to achieve this?

Sir, recently an experiment was conducted to tap the solar energy in space through a satellite and
then relaying it back on earth to a receiver.

Ch: what was the amount of power transmitted?

1.2 KW

Ch: there is already an existing use of long distance power transfer , in which power is transferred
to mobile towers to power red lights on them , the power transferred is about 400w.(then he
asked other member to ask me something).

M2: what do you know about IOCL?

Sir IOCL was started in a 2 room office of Balotara tower, Mumbai on 30th June 1959. Since then it
has never looked back and now it is wide spread and present in every nook and corner of the country,
from leh to kanyakumari , from Jaiselmer to Andman and Nicobar.
M2: Who is the chairman of IOCL?

Sir, Mr. B. Ashok

M2: what are our products?

Sir , IOCL is market leader in various products like petrol, diesel , servo...

M2: (cutting) what is servo?

Sir, servo is a lubricant brand of IOCL. It is actually a superbrand with more than 1500 grades.

M2: Grades?

(chairman assisting him)Sir he is talking about varieties

Sir there are industry specific requirements , and these require different properties of lubricants . IOCL
is using various chemical formulae to achieve different properties of lubricants that can be used in a
wide variety of industrial machinery. Apart from this , IOCL is making aviation fuel. bio fuel , green
fuel, petrochemicals etc...

Chairman: what is bio fuel?

Sir, bio fuel is the fuel obtained from various organic life like trees, plants and solid waste etc.

Ch. : which tree do we use for bio fuel ? can you name it?

sorry sir, I can't recall it now.(it is Jetropha )

Ch: it's OK.

M2:any other products?

apart from these , in order to realize our PM shri Narendra Modi's vision to cut oil imports by 10% ,
IOCL is foraying into renewable energy sector.

M2: what are the two sources in which IOCL is investing? what are its plans?

sir , IOCL is investing in solar and wind power and it is investing to generate about 260 MW of
renewable energy in a phased manner in next 5 years.

M2: What are your hobbies?

Sir, my hobby is reading articles on internet about consumer electronics and emerging technologies
in this field.

M2:What are the latest emerging technologies in it?

sir, intel has launched its 6th gen processors called skylake processors.

Chairman:(cutting) what is cloud computing?

sir, cloud computing is technique of storing personal files and data online using internet
Ch: What are its advantage?

sir, user no longer needs to carry his personal hard disk or any other storage device. He only needs a
connection with internet to access his files anytime anywhere. In fact, our PM has launched Digital
India scheme which is extensively based on cloud computing.

Ch: where the data is stored then?

Sir, the data is stored in the server of the service provider. For eg. if I am using google drive , which is
a cloud computing service by Google, then user data will be stored in Google's private server.

Ch: What if the server burns down? How would you make sure your data is safe?

Sir, before taking service of cloud computing service provider, I will try to make sure that service
provider is offering any backup server protection or not, by reading its terms and conditions policy.
Based on that, I will make my decision.

Ch: But what we usually do is that we click directly on "i agree", without going through terms.(all
agreeing)

yes Sir, it is true. But one must be careful if he wants to make sure that his data is in safe hands.

M2: So as an electrical engineer, how can you contribute IOCL in marketing ?

Sir, every industry whether small or large, needs power to run itself. we can take reference from
recently commissioned Paradip refinery which houses IOCL 's largest captive power plant of 366MW
to meet the local demand. Projects like that require electrical engineers for supervision and
maintenance.

M2: But that is refinery, how can you contribute in marketing?

Sir as an Electrical engineer, I can contribute in replacing conventional lighting system at retail
outlets into LED lighting.

M2: anybody can do that, nothing specific about it.

then sir it is not Electrical related works that I want to limit myself to. I want to learn other aspects of
work also. I will try to not let my specialization come into my path of learning, and I am willing to
learn about any work that company assigns to me.

M3: Who guided you to prepare for IOCL ? For how much time you have been preparing?

Ma'am Internet was my source, I was preparing for IOCL for last 20 days.

M3: have you stayed away from your home?

yes
M3:when?

during my robotics competition , I stayed in Mumbai.

M2: have you heard of BREXIT? can you describe it?

Sir BREXIT was a campaign run by British people to separate Britain from EU.

M2: why did they want to separate?

sir there were many reasons amounting for their exit. Growing immigrant crisis had put a burden on
the economy of Britain, creating unemployment. apart from that, Britain was unable to trade
globally under the rules and policies imposed by EU. It wanted to free itself from the trading policies
of EU, and become independent trader with its own policies.

M2: recently our PM has launched a scheme against black money. Do you know about it?

Sir, our PM has recently urged people to disclose their income and investment by 30th September,
2016.

Chairman: Do you know the % income tax that will be imposed on those who declare their
income?

Sir , I am not sure but I think it is 45%

Ch: It is 45%. Okay I think it is enough(consulting with others). You may go now. Thank you

M1,M3, M4: thank you

thank you sir , thank you ma'am.
