Dear [TITLE][NAME OF DONOR],

I am pleased to enclose here our research proposal on Nutrition to be implemented ny

Multipurpose Awareness Society. We hope this proposal will allow you to come to a decision
regarding support for this project in the coming week. Multipurpose Awareness Society requests
[AMOUNT] from [DONOR].
We understand [DONOR] is figuring out change in the present nutritional situation. Our project
directly addresses this issue.
Nutrition Food and Health is a project focussed on promoting nutritional security by survey and
research in high school children. With your support, we will be able to take forth first step in
implementing change towards abolishing nutritional crisis.
We thank you again for your consideration and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Abstract
There has been a significant decline in the nutritional status among people in India. There can be
many reasons for it which include improper food production, inefficient food supply, climatic
changes affecting crops, lack of awareness, poverty and illiteracy. The United Nation's
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is the reduction of maternal and child mortality. The
'green revolution' has increased food supply in Asia, and hunger and under nutrition have been
decreasing since 1981. However, instead of having to deal with surplus food grain, South Asia
and India are still facing high levels of hunger. Although some south Indian cities are witnessing
a technology boom, one in every 11 children die within the first 5 years of their lives either due
to malnutrition or due to non availability of even simple technology and health care.
A research focussing on the need of nutritional requirement and improvement is necessary as it
will not only help in focussing on this major problem but also draw attention towards the
relevant measures that needs to be taken to promote health and nutrition as a daily lifestyle.
Introduction
The development and potential of a community or society is a consortium of many factors which
work in synergy to raise the standards of communal harmony, growth and upliftment. Of these
factors, nutritional supply and its effective reach plays a very important role. A key factor in
nation building by health encouragement and prevention of disease, nutritional reach to each and
every unit of community is a necessity of the recent times.
A specific need of research in nutritional supply and requirement lies amongst the children upto
the age of 15. Being the most responsive periods to the physical supplements from outside, this
age group becomes a major consideration in this study. The consolidated factors of metabolism,
utilization, genetic profile and growth makes this age group so sensitive to changes in
environmental factors, dietary nutrients, pathogenic agents, etc.
According to a research report by the 2018 Global Nutrition Report (GNR 2018), India is not on
track to achieve any of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) nine nutrition goals--reduce
child overweight, wasting and stunting, diabetes among women and men, anemia in women of
reproductive age and obesity among women and men, and increase exclusive breastfeeding--by
2025. India has shown improvement in reducing child stunting but with 46.6 million stunted
children, according to the report, the country is home to over 30.9% of all stunted children under
five--the highest in the world.
Keeping these things in mind , a research study is carried out for statistical analysis of nutrition
requirements to children up-to the age of 15. This study is done at school level for both boys and
girls keeping in mind the difference in their metabolism, growth, bodily processes and
requirements.
Background History
With the current reports of nutritional status from the Global Nutrition Report, it becomes
necessary to draw attention to the study of nutritional requirement.
A similar study was carried out to assess the nutritional status of school children in Mangalore
city, India. The study was carried out by Ramachandra Kamath, Manish Kumar, Sanjay
Pattanshetty and Asha Kamath in the year 2007.
It was a cross-sectional study with a sample size of a total 1630 students from 11 schools. The
sample size was calculated assuming the prevalence of undernourished in Mangalore city as 20%
and a relative precision of 10%.
A statistical analysis was done based on the BMI (body mass index), Z-scores, and World Health
Organization (WHO) Multicentric Growth Reference Study (MGRS) growth chart(2007).The
results clearly indicated that the study population of 1630 students comprised 830 (50.9%) males
and 800 (49.1%) females. On analysis, 82 children (5.03%) were found to be undernourished, 37
(2.3%) were overweight, and 16 (1%) were obese. Undernourishment was more prevalent in
boys (6.87%) than in girls (3.12%).Obesity was marginally higher among males (1.2%) as
compared to females (0.8%). A total of 15 boys (1.8%) and 22 girls (2.8%) were found to be
overweight.
The nutritional status of the students in this study is better than has been found in other studies.
However, there are cases of under nourishment that needs attention.
Scope of Research
With the results of declining nutrition status among children, there arises a need for the study of
the components necessary for proper metabolism and growth. Such a study will help in dealing
with various problems like obesity, overweight, impending epidemic of non-communicable
disease and growth dysfunction. Food insecurity is the major cause for declining health records
in a community. Its awareness is a paramount factor in decisive analysis as well as prevention, if
necessary.
Such a research or survey will also be beneficial in terms of effective dialogue between different
units of administration and enable transparency and efficient collaboration. And also helps in
reviewing the socio-economic factors both external and internal for the growth and development.
Research Methodology

This cross-sectional study of assessing student’s health status will be conducted on high school
students of Adilabad, Telangana. Adilabad is chosen because it is a regressive state with poor
quality of daily life. One step in this way will help in the improvement of the quality of life there
and bring forth a better future in terms of livelihood.

The study would be carried by baseline survey through the medium of feedback forms.
Approximately 100 schools will be visited by the team which makes the sample size of around
10,000 high school children.
The feedback forms will be given to pupils with the intention of gathering information about :

1.) Demographics
2.) Age
3.) Gender
4.) Type of food they consume on a daily basis
5.) Any sort of physical abnormality
6.) Height and weight
7.) Sources of nutrition in their daily diet

These survey details forms the basis of primary data to go through comparative analysis
and provides information concerning the type, prevalence, reasons and causes of
nutritional problems. What the students are eating and what they lack in diet will be
necessary for future analysis of dietary fibres and help in prevention, if necessary at all.
Also secondary information will be collected online through various surveys already
done and websites which have the same statement of purpose and relevant data. The
secondary data can be used as a supportive tool to the primary data and bring forth steps
for implementing necessary change.

Outcomes
The survey has its ultimate purpose of predicting and preventing. With an attempt to
solve the nutritional crisis and the risk of a nutritional deficiency epidemic, specifically in
high school children, this project holds a crucial place in socio-economic solutions,
cultural diversities in terms of food and nationwide prevalence and awareness.
The project can result in deciphering intricate details related to the health and growth of
the whole community by extrapolating the results.
The specific information that can be obtained includes the type on nutrition the particular
age-group is having and what type they should be having. This can help us to find what
nutrition students are lacking, what may be the cause of it and what can be done to
overcome it.
Also predict the deficiencies in young age will help to solve problems that can come in
near future like woman and male fertility.
With all this information the health decline in the nation can be avoided and atleast start
at a small scale with solid efforts.
If such measures are not taken it will become very difficult in ensuring the health and
nutrition of nation, even at a communal level.
Budget
This project has a timeline of 6 months and will cover various aspects of livelihood. The
research project staff will have around 5 members. This will cover basic requirements:

REQUIREMENT COST (RS.)

TRAVEL/TRANSPORT

ACCOMODATION

SALARY

The mentioned project budget will help in the improvement of the present situation of
nutritional crisis and implement necessary changes
