I. Pre-Intake Interview.

B) Brief Statement of the Problem

LB himself approached to the clinician as he used to consult in the past regarding general guidance
about studies. Now he approached due to severe depression and anxiety problem which makes him a
irritated and angry person.

II. Intake Interview.


A) Family History
LB is a 22yr old boy, a local residence of Hinganghat, dist- wardha, from his birth. He is a 2nd
year student of ATD (Art Teacher Diploma) course in VasantChitrakalMahavidhyalaya, Hinganghat.
LB is the second child to his parents. He is having a elder sister who is 29 yrs old. She has
completed B.Com and presently working in a Pvt. company. She is single. Financial condition of his
family is below average. His father was working as a laborer in Gima Tex Industries Pvt. Ltd.
Hinganghat and retired last year. He is a earning little as a HAWKER. They are managing their life in
an average level.
B) Developmental History.
LB has an average childhood with the mixture of joys and sorrows. Till 4 th std. he studied in
RatnaVidyaNiketan School, Hinganghat which is an English medium State Board School. But due to
unaffordable school fess, he has been transferred to Hindi Medium Government School. This shift
war very discouraging to him as the environment and mentality of the school and students was
completely different. But still LB managed to get assimilate to the changed atmosphere. But the
feeling of poverty was very disheartening.
From this time LB had developed a severe urge to become rich and wealthy. Till 7th std. he
was going well but in Hindi medium school he was not developing by means of knowledge and stills
as the teachers and surroundings were not favorable (POSHAK VATAWARAN). By this time he
grew a great interest in Arts, Crafts and sculpting. He began to draw sketches, clay modeling and
origami by himself, without any formal training. This was all from his own intuitions.
When he was in 8th std. he went to Amravati for the Marriage Ceremony of his cousin brother.
As they were close relatives and summer vacations were going, LB reached there 25 days before the
marriage day. So he was hanging around, doing all the works of marriage at home, and supporting his
brother as this was an Inter-caste Love Marriage. LB had already supported his brother emotionally
and boosted him for this since they were having very good bonding and communication.
By the 5th day there, he saw a girl who was the guest in the neighbor’s house. He said he fell
in love/attraction with that girl. So he started looking at her and trying to interact somehow. But didn’t
workto a great extent. He started drawing sketches of her. He also conveyed his feelings to his
brother, but brother was busy in marriage works so he ignored. But LB kept insisting him to get him a
intro with that girl. Brother assured him that he will see the matter after the marriage. Till then LB
tried at his level to interact with the girl, but didn’t worked. By the time he managed to know the
name of the girl. This was the beginning of his adolescence age, he thought he is in real love with that
girl and tried very seriously to get her. But his attempts were looked as a childish behavior by the
elders around him. This strict approach of elders started developing anger in his mind. He was feeling
that everyone in thinking that he is a CHILD and has no such serious feeling about the girl. But his
brother promised him that he will support him in his love Endeavour. But before 5 days to marriage
ceremony the girl went back to her own town and LB lost his hope. He was very upset and
disheartened. But on the day of RECEPTION CEREMONY that girl appeared in front of him. He got
very happy and thought he still have chance. He interacted with the girl, just 2-3 sentencesand LB had
to go nearby for the work as this was his family function and by the time he get back there in few
minutes the girl went away.
Next day LB decided to talk at home terrace and he planned to gift her sketch that he drew of
her by these days. But in the early morning he saw her in a car just passing by in front him. He again
broke down. He talked to his brother and asked her phone number and address. But he changed.
Brother suddenly talked very rudely and asked him to leave this matter there, and forgot the girl
straightly. These words were so insulting and were like showing mirror to him that he is not of that
level to think of that girl. This event reminded him his poverty and ugly physical appearance.
He came back home and started his 8th std. studies as the summer vacations were over. He
was carrying this turmoil and grudges in his mind. He started developing himself in every aspect in
thought that he will get back to Amravati in next summer vacations fully improved in every sense. He
started painting more and finishing his art and craft skills. Sculpting Ganesha’s idols to earn money.
Dance was his innate skills, so he used to perform in local dance competitions to earn money as
prizes. He slowly grew as a dancer and very good artist. He called his brother many a times asking the
same question, her address and phone no. but every time his brother used to scold him showing his
level(aukatdikhana). Again the grudge was getting stronger. Hi consulted the teacher (me) before 10th
standard board exams and 12th standard board exams for problems in studies. Teacher guided him and
his friends supported him. He passed both the exams in average.
After 12th, he was forcefully admitted in B.A. (Marathi) as this was the cheapest and only
available option as per his eligibility as percentage were loss in 12th std. so he dropped out after one
year waste. Then again he consulted(me) and was suggested to do ATD(Art Teacher Diploma) here in
Hinganghat. He completed one year very nicely and he gotbefriended with a girl and boy in the class
at the end of first year.
In the beginning of the second year L.B. boy and girl get into relationship and L.B. came to
know this there fact two and half months ago. So after looking at them he got reminded of his past
love, and that girl. He used to get annoyed by their couples around in the class and the problem got
seems, he is triggered by any couple around him. By any topic related to love. He think that he is not
rich not fair and handsome. He doesn’t have any guts any qualities. Nobody likes him etc. all the self-
criticism and judgmental thoughts. So he seeks help again and consulted counselor.
C) General Attitude
L.B. general attitude about life, himself and people around him is very negative at present. He
recently ran away from the class where there was celebration of a competition in which boy and girl
(grouped) won the poster making competition. He says he doesn’t want to see anybody happy,
celebrating as he is not happy from 5th std. he can’t see any couple in front of him. He used to avoid
such scenario or move away as such.
D) Estimate of the self and the world
As mentioned in the previous paragraph, his attitude about himself and the world is very
negative as he doesn’t find any motivation to do anything. He is depressed because nothing good
happened in his life as in the recent past. His father is worried about his career and family income and
used to keep on proofing him about his family condition at present.
III. Psychological Assessment
A) Tests Administered
i) Beck depression inventory
ii) Draw a person. ( He is an artist he painted his own feeling and conditions in a
very elaborative painting and showed after 3 days ).
B)Observational data
L.B. was able to completed the instructions of the test given and completed the task entrusted
with. He was very co-operative long time and not expressed yet from long time. His voice tone was
very clear and precise. He was oriented to person, place, time and situation. He was very confidently
explaining the expression in the painting as he is a professional painter. While administering the test,
he sometimes got angry while explaining the past as it was accumulated from very
C) Test Results and Interpretations.
As per the back depression inventory, L.B. is detected with moderate depression. LB’s verbal
abilities are good and had a good command over language and he is a very good artists. Due to his
depression and tendency to get triggered, he is avoiding going to classes and which is happening his
education as he is in final year of his diploma course.
His attitude depicts self-consciousness about his looks and social status as he was criticized
by his brother in the past. He wanted to look good and became famous. He likes to be praised and
appreciated by the public. He also feels jealous about the fact that he is single and his friends are in
relationship. He thinks that he is having guts but peoples around him are not calculating him on that.
He gets annoyed by the fact that peoples (classmates / friends) are living in a life which he expected
visualized or anticipated for himself. This thing irritates him to an exact that he cannot bears and used
to run away from the site.
His relation with mother and father and sister is very good. He is close to his sister, he use to
share all the things but, she was unable to counsel him as she is busy in her life and job. He has a
extreme anger for his brother and sister in law.
He believes in God but not too much indulge. He has no hope from anyone in the world.
IV. Findings and Conclusions.

A) Diagnostic Formulations.
LB has depressing and anger due to criticism and betrayal. His approach is dull and hopeless
towards everything. He says he doesn’t want to do anything even if today is the last day of life.
B) Motive/Goal System and Conflicts
LB is depressed by unfulfilled expectations and angry by the feeling of betrayal. This has led
to the tendency of avoidance and withdrawal from the situations.
He wanted to become rich and famous so that he want to show his relatives and brother
specially that he was seriously in love that time and they misunderstood him. All he wanted is revenge
from all who criticized and betrayed him. But he is working hard before getting severely triggered to
excel in his field.
C) Coping Strategies/Mechanism
Earlier LB used to seek help from his friends regarding general disturbance in mood. He used
to visit his teacher regarding guidance in studies. He use to paint or do any art work (origami,
sculpting, etc.) to distract himself from the depressed mood. Sometimes he used to express his
feelings through his sketches. But recent trigger was beyond his capacity to cope. He sought help
from the counselor to get him out of the serious depression.
V. Psychological Interventions.
Recommendations:-LB needs psychotherapy sessions to get rid of his depression and gain a realistic
understanding of life and future. CBT can be effective for helping LB to get rid of his traumatic
memories of betrayal and criticism. Increase the frequency of positive thoughts.He needs help to
improve his positive and realistic understanding of life and situations to adjust with the people around
him. Help needs to be given to LB to reduce his triggers and critical thinking pattern and self-
criticismto stabilize his emotions and feelings through sessions of emotion-regulation and meditation.
He is a good artist, he should shift focus on work and careerso he can be successful and achieve some
position so that his failure and self-critical thoughts will be subsided.
