The Manifesto for Future Paralegals

For future paralegals who priories people over money, you must believe that:

1. The American justice system is unjust.

2. Prison is supposed to be for rehabilitation, but the time spent in jail does not successfully

rehabilitate most inmates.

3. Being within the walls of confinement slowly drives people to insanity as life becomes

dull, and mental health is no longer a priority.

4. The practice law is never about "the truth." If that were the case, many people wouldn't

be in incarceration.

5. Racial profiling, personal backgrounds, unconscious biases about race, gender, and

appearance, can play a significant role in the outcomes of someone's life than actual law

itself.

6. The prison system prioritizes money over human capital.

7. Noticing the imperfections of the criminal justice system prompts you to want to help

those who are misfortunate and wrongly accused of crimes they did not commit.

8. It is an emotional experience knowing that someone's life is in the hands of paralegals.

9. Furthermore, it is even more emotional when people can't afford bail due to

socio-economic circumstances.
10. Once some enter the gates of the prison, their life is forever changed.

11. You could have easily been in his situation if you were at the wrong place at the wrong

time.

12. As a future paralegal, you hope to break the chains of the justice system, helping those

who do not have a voice.

13. You will help people despite their economic status and be a representative for people

who can not represent themselves.

14. We need to start thinking about the real consequences of life.

15. We live in an age where people are still discriminated against based on skin color, where

the modern-day version of slavery is the prison system of the United States.

16. We live in an age where black men and women are afraid to call the cops or be pulled

over with the idea that they might lose their lives.

17. We live in an age where the promotion of diversity is only for the pursuit of a gloating

statistic; what happens to the treatment of those diverse people once they are in the

vicinity?

18. We live in an age where people are still discriminated against based on skin color

19. Democracy is dying in the hands of oppression.

20. In the future, the chains would no longer be bound, and freedom will not come at the

cost of lives.
