Abstract:

The purpose of this work is to study about the fuselage design by analyzing structural stress in various parts of the
fuselage body, selecting high specific strength materials and calculating better aerodynamic performances for all
kind of manoeuvrable operations. Fineness ratio is chosen in such a way it can exist in a proper aerodynamic shape
so that separation is avoided when possible and fuselage is designed in such a way to reduce drag as much as much
as possible and provide maximum lift. Maneuver operations always involve acceleration, turning, banking angle,
deceleration all of which will put the UAV under high loads, so structural stress is analyzed very carefully and in
calculation, we take high factor of safety. Material selection is one of the important factors to determine the total
cost, skin friction drag and strength of the structure. For fabrication of this UAV, high specific strengths materials
are used like Balsa wood sheets and aluminium sheets. We also use GI wire as one of the structural members due to
its availability. The total fuselage structure is drawn by Solidworks software.

Material: Balsa wood, aluminium and GI wire.

Loads on fuselage:

1) For Pull up maneuver with load factor 8, Force= 78 x mass N

2) For Turn with descend maneuver downward force= 9.81 x mass N

Arrange fuselage parts:

Fuselage length= 10 ft, Fuselage diameter= 1.5 ft, Tail arm 65%, CG is selected to coinside with Wing aerodynamic
centre at full fuel condition.
