Lesson 1 STARTER

Aim:
1. To introduce/remind the names of the characters.
2. To revise family vocabulary, appearance words.
3. To develop reading and speaking skills.
Personal aims:
1. To introduce oneself.
2. To identify children`s skills.
Materials: CD 02-03, STARTER story poster, flashcards 1-4, family flash cards,
colour flash cards.
Stage 1.Warmer.
Aim: to greet children
Time: 5 min.
Procedure:
 Say Hello. Encourage children to say Hello back
 Ask and answer the questions How are you? What`s your name? with
individual children. Children than ask and answer the questions in pairs.
Stage 2. Lead-in.
Aim: To get students involved in the topic.
Time: 5 min.
Procedure:
 Tell children that they are going to begin the lesson with a song. Can you
remember the colours? Put out the colour flash cards one by one on the
whiteboard in the following order:
Red Yellow Pink Green
Purple Orange Blue
 Drill the colours if needed
 Play “I spy with my little eye” game
 Play “Sing a rainbow” and point to the colours on the whiteboard, mime the
rainbow.
 Play the song again and encourage children to sing along.
Stage 3. Vocabulary presentation/revision.
Aim: To introduce/revise characters’ names and develop reading skills.
Time: 10 min.
Procedure:
 Ask the children if they remember the characters. Put out the
characters flash cards and name them.
 Drill if needed.
 Say Open your books and encourage children to point to the
characters you name. (or ask them to come out to the whiteboard)
 Use Starter story poster to present the story. Ask What’s happening?
Encourage predictions from children
 Play the recording. Point to different speech bubbles.
 Ask questions to check comprehension: What is Rosye`s video about?
What’s on Billy`s bed? Is Billy in the bed room?
 Play the recording again for children to listen and read the story.
 P. 5 ex.2 (explain the task). Encourage children to check the answers
in pairs, then together with the class.
Stage 4. Controlled and freer practice.
Aim: To develop speaking skills.
Time: 15 min.
Procedure:
 Ask Do you remember family worlds?
 Present/revise family worlds, using the flash cards
 Tell children they are going to hear a recording describing the people in
Rosy`s family.
 Ask children to read the words in the word pool. (p.5)
 Play the recording pausing after each item for children to write the numbers.
 Children check answers in pears, than in class.
 Tell children to look at the whiteboard (written record: She`s got… He`s
got… long, short, straight, curly, brown, white, black, hair, eyes). Encourage
children to copy the words from the whiteboard and drill if needed.
 Describe a character from p.5 for children to guess.
 Ask children to describe another character for the class to guess (more than
one preferably).
Stage 5 Summing up
Aim: to get children go through target language once again
Time: 5 min
Procedure:
 Say Close your books. Encourage children to remember the vocabulary and
constructions you’ve studied over the lesson.
 Say Let’s write down your homework. Explain homework with children,
providing examples if necessary. (HT WB p.4,5)
 Say Thank you. Say Good bye to children and encourage them to say good
bye to you
