Summary
Biographies describe and discuss the life of a real person. The information given in biographies are based on
facts. Biographies tell the story in a style and tone that the reader/listener can relate to the person and
believe in their humanness. Biographies are written in Past Tense. So, what is Past Tense?
The past tense describes a past event or a state of being. For example:
I jumped in the lake.
(past event)
I was happy.
(past state of being)
The rule is simple:
If the verb is regular: verb+ed = past form of a verb
If the verb is irregular: things will get a bit complicated here.
In order to understand the “irregular verbs,” now we’re going to first read a biography. In the given text, you
need to understand the order of the events, and then match those events with dates. Then we’ll work on
irregular verbs with the help of an infographic.
