Some Factors That Influence Stress Among Flight Attendants

What is the meaning of stress? Based on Cambridge Dictionary, Stress is a great worry
that caused by a difficult situation, or something that causes this condition. So, How can this
affect the flight attendant? What stress meaning in aviation? Stress is an insidious threat to
aviation safety because of the impairments in alertness and performance it creates (Hajiyousefi,
Asadi, & Jafari, 2017). So, do you know why it affect flight attendants? Stress can come because
many factors,such as fatigue, difficulty managing time, and difficulty dividing tasks.

First,difficulty dividing task. Flight attendants also have their own life beside aviation.
They have many obligation too like, obligation as father or mother, obligation as son or daughter,
and obligation as partner. Work related factors that increase stress among working women
include difficulties in balancing work and family, and variable or unpredictable work schedules
that include long periods away from the home (Ballard, et al., 2006). For example, Mr. Agung
that work as pilot, his family already planed a family dinner at Sunday to celebrate his wedding
anniversary, but suddenly he got an information that he needed to replace his sickness friend for
flight. Sometimes, this can make flight attendant relation broke. The result is all people that have
relation with flight attendant think that they only care with their job. Flight attendant will feel
guilty because make many people that they love disappointed because can’t managed their times,
and they also confuse to choose between work or relationship. It really big pressure that will
make flight attendant stress and have a big migrain.

Next factors fatigue is happened when flight attendants can not get enough rest after do
many things along day. Fatigue and altered sleep-wake cycles also may be factors (Hajiyousefi,
Asadi, & Jafari, 2017) because it can make flight attendants emotion unstable. Unstable emotion
can give bad effect at mental health that bring stress effect to their body. If this happened, flight
attendants will lose concentration to do their dutty. After that, difficulty adapting with strangers.
It ussualy happens to new flight attendant workers. They usually think to hard to adapt and ended
with make mistake. After make mistake they will feel thet are not well enough to work when
they already studied hard to be at aviation. They will feel isolated with their senior and end up
stress.

Shortly, because stress for flight attendants is harmfull, the article and debriefing that
discuss about “how to reduce stress among flight attendant” is important to decrease the harmfull
for everybody safety.
