What is cross trading?

When cargo is moved between an origin and destination without it entering the country where the
shipper is registered it is commonly referred to as cross trades.

Service:

The company offers trade services; dry cargo services that include hazardous, food-grade, and rare and
precious cargo; reefer cargo; and oversized, out-of-gauge, and break-bulk cargo services. It also provides
intermodal transportation services through containers (standard and specialist), trailers, chassis, and
barges; warehousing and storage solutions; cross trading services, such as competitive pricing, securing
bookings, documentation handling, tracking facilities, and pre/on carriage arrangements; customs
clearance services; and cargo trailers.

EXPORT:

• Freight forwarder raises the inquiry


• Negotiations take place
• Rate finalization is done
• Freight Forwarder places booking in INTRA
• Delivery Order (D.0.) is issued
• Shippers transporter picks the Container
• Stuff the Container and proceeds for custom clearance
• Handover the stuffed container to ICD for movement by road or by train [MSC to issue Form 8
(by rail) and Form 6 (by road)]
• Handover Seal Cover to MSC
• Entering Shipping Instructions in INTRA by customer
• Confirmation of Shipping Instructions (rates to be fed and data is checked)
• Bill of lading being updated by MSC Mumbai Office.
• B/L draft is downloaded and forwarded to client. Client to check on shipping instructions and
information of correction, if any that can be done, if the manifest is not closed.
• Invoice is prepared and audited (all the queries are sorted out and sent to the customer).
• Shipped on Board (SOB) to customer.
• Collection of Payment and release of B/L.

IMPORT

• Unload the Container at POD (port of discharge)


• Arrival notices send by MSC to notify or consignee
• Delivery Order issued by MSC after payment completion
• Container movement for de-stuffing process
• Empty container returns to the MSC depot

Logistics and operations:

This department deals with the inventory of equipment and handles the containers right from the
allotment till loading of vessel. They are fully responsible for the availability of containers for export
bookings to avoid the lost bookings. The logistics department has to check, keep tracking of the
container and keep update on the container movement.

They also intimate the customers on ETA/ETD of available vessels for connecting their export containers.

If the shipper or the consignee has to load on urgent basis after the cut-off, they can contact or inform
MSC officials to load on SSR (Special Service Request).
