MODELING COMMITTEE
A modeling committee has been formed to solicit and coordinate articles for TKM, set standards and
procedures for the annual model contest, engage in liaison with model manufacturers, announce and
review PRR models offered by manufacturers, and advise the BoD on how to better support the efforts
of PRR modelers. The following members have been appointed:
Based on Elden’s presentation on this subject during the 2003 Annual meeting, which was built upon
Ian Fischer’s presentation on the real PRR gondolas during the 2002 Annual Meeting. Look for this
17-part presentation to start in September with breaks in between, so we don’t get gondola over load.
The articles will include modeling the following classes – GR/GRA, GS/GSH, G22 series,
G24/G25/G25B, G26 series (with Kris Kollar), G27 series, G28 (by Jack Consoli), G29 series,
G30/G30A, G31 series/G35, G32 scratchbuild/G32A/discuss G32B/G32C brass car discussion, G33
scratchbuild/G33A/G33B/G37 discussion, G34 (by Jack Consoli), G36 series scratch builds,
G38/G39/G39A/etc ore cars, G40/G41/G41A, and G42/G43/G44 discussion.

This article should run in December 2003, to correspond with the Winter Keystone featuring Jack’s
article on the same subject about the real EMD F Units. Jack also made a presentation on this subject
during the 2003 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.

PRR hopper car author John Teichmoeller will be presenting an article on modeling PRR covered
hoppers. This will be a nice companion piece to Rick Tipton’s article on lettering PRR covered
hoppers (1931-1968) in the Summer 2002 Keystone, which followed his presentation on the same
subject during the 2000 Annual Meeting at Camp Hill.
Craig kit bashed and scratch built this one of a kind PRR covered hopper and won First Place HO
freight cars in the 2003 Annual Meeting Modeling contest.

Modeling a PRR Class T1 by Tom Hayden
Tom will tell us how he used a new Bowser boiler with a Penn Line 1960’s chassis and tender to create
this beautiful class T1 Duplex 4-4-4-4, No. 5523, in HO scale that took First Place steam locomotives
during the 2003 Annual meeting in Philadelphia.

Many of us have been kept posted with Gary’s super modeling efforts through his periodic online
updates. Now he will share with us how he has mastered styrene and constructed this beautiful larger
scale PRR steam shifter. Hopefully we’ll all get to see it in the flesh at Cincinnati in 2004.

He got some interesting feedback, shown below, from several responders about what subjects they
would like to see covered in the pages of TKM. This certainly gives the modeling committee some idea
about where they should be concentrating their efforts. Elden will conduct the survey again next
month, right after Labor Day. If any subscribers find a particular subject that they would like to write
about please contact both your editor at: abbuchan1@comcast.net and the committee chair at:
