Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

I. Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to be able to:
a. Understand the different elements of Narratives.
b. Construct two to three narrative paragraph showing the different elements of
narratives.
c. Appreciate the values to be learned through reading a story.

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Prayer
Let us all pray. In the name of the Father …

2. Greetings
Good morning, class!

3. Review
Narratives - is a type of literary text that tells a story. It presents a series of
events which can either be true or not.
TYPES OF NARRATIVES
a. Fiction
b. Non-fiction

B. Motivation
Show pictures of banana, monkey and turtle and lets the students name what’s
on the picture then ask question,
‘If you were to choose between a monkey and a turtle, what do you
want to be?’

C. Discussion

ELEMENTS OF NARRATIVES
a. Characters – are the people, animals or things that are responsible for the
events.
b. Settings – are the place and day the story happens. It answers when and
where.
c. Plot – consist of the episodes that make up the beginning, middle, and
ending.
d. Theme – refers to the author’s message or insight about life or human
nature that he or she tries to convey through the story.

2. Reading
The class will read the story “The Monkey and the Turtle” by Jose Rizal”
then the teacher will ask questions.
a. What is the title of the story?
b. Who are the characters of the story?
c. When and where did the story happened/
d. What is the beginning part of the story? Or how did the story started?
e. What is the middle part of the story where do you think the major
problem of the story?
f. What is the ending of the story?
g. What did you learned from the story? What do you think is the lesson of
the story?

D. Generalization
There are four elements of Narratives,

1. Characters – are the people, animals or things that are responsible for the
events.
2. Settings – are the place and day the story happens. It answers when and
where.
3. Plot – consist of the episodes that make up the beginning, middle, and
ending.
4. Theme – refers to the author’s message or insight about life or human
nature that he or she tries to convey through the story.

E. Application
The class will be divided into three groups and each group will construct a story
that shows the elements of Narratives.
F. Evaluation
Directions: Given the story entitled “The Ant and the Grasshopper”, connect the
two columns by writing the letter from column B that is best described in
column A.
