INTRODUCTION:

“Technology will never replace great teachers, but technology in the hands of great
teachers is transformational (Couros).” In this current generation, learning process is developing
and expanding. A teacher should be creative on how he/she will deliver all the lessons that needs
to be tackled to their students. From past school experiences, there are so many teachers that
continue on using the traditional way of teaching including the use of manila papers, whiteboard

websites and online stores or what we called “e-book”. E-book or electronic book is an online
counterpart of traditional printed books. It is an online digital publication that can be read using a
computer, tablets and mobile phones. In our current age, e-books are now currently used in
various schools here in the Philippines due to online demand and positive feed backs of this tools
from other people who already used this instrument moreover, it has many advantages for
students and still, it also has its disadvantages. Here in Manila Central University, there are many
professors that are currently using this technological advantages especially using online websites
such as edmodo, classcraft, powtoon and many more. Even though the school continue the usage
of traditional books, it still entered the technological advancement stage. The question is, does
these kinds of technological innovations help the students in gaining the adequate knowledge
that a person should have or it is just a waste of time, money and effort?

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

This study aims to examine the benefits of technological innovation to the selected grade
12 STEM students’ academic performance during the school year of 2018 – 2019. Specifically,
this study sought to answer the following questions;

1. What are the differences between newly innovated technologies and old school technologies?

2. Are the following technological innovation useful to a students’ educational activities?

2.1 Electronic books;

2.2 Online classroom;

2.3 Online
3. Does technological advancement really help students in studying?

3.1 What are the benefits of technological innovation to a student’s academic performance?

3.2 What are the negative effects of technological innovation to a student’s academic
performance?

4. Is the use of technology more beneficial to the students than going to the library?

5. What is the relationship between technological innovation and improvement of a student’s

academic performance?

HYPOTHESES:

1. What are the differences between newly innovated technologies and old school technologies?

Newly innovated technology is updated and user friendly rather than old school technologies.
Newly innovated technologies are preferable because it is easier to use while old school
technologies are harder to use.

performances?

Since newly innovated technologies makes everything easier to perform academic performances,
students rarely goes to libraries to learn. Students depend on online sources rather than books.

4.Is the use of technology more beneficial to the students than going to a library?

Yes, because it is accessible and user friendly. It also has a wide range of selections that can
acquire new knowledge to students.

5.What is the relationship between technological innovation and improvement of a student’s

academic performance?

It makes studying easier and doing academic performances won’t be a hassle.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY:

1. To know if technological innovations or advancements really help students in

acquiring sufficient and effective information for future purposes
2. To understand the advantages and disadvantages of using technology
3. To learn if technological innovation outplays the traditional way of learning

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY:

The findings of this study will benefit to many schools and students considering that there
are educational institutions that has dreams in implementing the usage of electronic devices or e-
books especially in teaching and learning purposes. We could also identify if using technology
can be more effective in giving its knowledge to students especially in higher school years.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION:

This study focuses on determining the benefits of technological innovation to the

academic performance of the respondents. This study is a quantitative research that uses a
descriptive method and the instrument that is used to collect data is a questionnaire.

The study is conducted to selected grade 12 STEM students enrolled in Manila Central
University for S.Y. 2018 - 2019. This study is also limited only to the selected respondents who
are present during the day this study is conducted since they can supply the researchers'
questionnaire with the needed information.

The researchers did not include school administrators and non-academic personnel in this
study because this is only focused on the views of the selected respondents
