NEED ASSESSMENT
Academic performance of students in declining day by day there can be a lot of reasons to that. To
find out what are the main reasons of students' academic performance is decreasing a small session
of interviews was carried out including several questions.

The questions were following;

Q 1. Do you have a proper time table of daily routine?

Q 2. Do you meet your deadlines on time?

Q 3. Do you say that, “I’ll do it later”?

Q 4. Do you procrastinate for the studies?

Q 5. Do you think that spending time on social media made you procrastinate?

Q 6. How much time do you spend on Social Media?

Q 7. Do you think that Social Media is wasting your time?

From the results it was seen that the basic problem student face is that they intentionally
putt off their work to be done later and they also think that social media is making them to
procrastinate but people who spend 1-2hrs on social media are not wasting their time but
just using social media to be updated but people spending 4-10hrs know that they are
wasting their time on social media. so, from these responses we can conclude that the major
problem which is affecting students’ academic performance is procrastination.
Procrastination, it is a voluntary delay in completing a task or achieving something. It is
habitual and intentional. It is major problem now a days when students are assigned to
complete a task on a specific deadline. They take short cuts or just copy it from any other
source or they delay in completion of that task till the last date of submission. This delay in
the task is known as academic procrastination, because students have become lazy and do
not take their studies seriously and this affects their academic performance.
1. Lack of interest.
2. Peer pressure.
3. Lack of motivation.
4. Poor time management.
5. Social media.
6. Personality, or
7. Unclear goals.
Procrastination eventually affects future of the students. When they are bad at completing
small university assignments, they will behave same with the project deadline they are going
to be assigned at their jobs. There is a need to tell students that leaving their tasks till the last
day is not good and they have to stop procrastinating.
There is another type of procrastination I.e. active procrastination, it is the purposeful delay
in completion of a task because the person wants to put all the efforts in that task but, that
too has a negative effect on academic performance because that person is not utilizing his
time efficiently rather he is spending all of his time on that one particular task.

Assessing Training Method
To solve this problem people should know what is procrastination, its
advantages/disadvantages, its effects on health and academic performance for
this purpose a workshop will be conducted, which will need a prior registration
and after the workshop “certificate of participation” will be distributed among
the students. This is a onetime workshop. Many activities will be conducted
during this workshop which will help students to see how they are managing
their time and how they are prioritizing their goals. This workshop will help the
students in making a daily schedule and following a daily schedule. Video on the
effect of procrastination on your health (physical and mental) will be shown to
the participants. They will also be taught how they can reduce procrastination
and overcome the stress caused by procrastination

Objective
After this workshop students will be able to;

 Manage their time efficiently and effectively.

 To make a productive daily schedule.
 Differentiate between trivial and useful activities.
 The time they spend on achieving goals.

Description of activities to be conducted during the workshop


Icebreaker activity: Students will be divided into groups of 8 and have 10 minutes to make 40
paper boats of the same size.
Activity 1; Students will be divided into groups of four individuals they are needed to solve a
problem 5 minutes will be given to analyze the problem and 10 minutes to write the possible
solutions for that problem.
Activity 2; Each student will calculate his profit and loss, for activities they do in a day. They
will count useful activities as income and trivial activities as expenses. Each income will be of
Rs 10. and expense will be of Rs 5.
Activity 3; a paper will be given to each student which will have a table on it comprising of 24
boxes. They'll have to fill each box with a color for different activities there are different
color.

 Blue: studies.
 Green: sleeping.
 Dark blue: traveling.
 Pink: rest/ nap.
 Purple: outing/ physical social gathering.
 Red: social media or web surfing.
 Black: Time wastage on trivial activities.
Activity 4; There will be a box full of different blocks and they will have a day to day activity
written on them students will have to pick as many blocks as they can from their non-
dominant hand. This will help them prioritizing their daily activities.
Activity 5; Making a weekly timetable with an hour gap and at the end count the hours you
spend towards achievement of your goal.

Evaluation
Students who have can prioritize goals efficiently, spend a valuable time on
efforts to achieve goals, have a productive daily schedule and good time
management skills don’t procrastinate and have a vision and they know where
they are going to be in next 5-10 years. But students who waste their time on
trivial activities and social media and don’t have a proper schedule they don’t
know how to prioritize goals tend to procrastinate a lot and are unable to be
successful and see themselves at a certain position in future.
In the end of this workshop everyone is needed to write down a paragraph 50-
100 words about what they have learnt from this workshop and how they will
use it in future and is it was beneficial to them or just waste of time and efforts.
