Content Standard Demonstrate Understanding of the formation of typhoons and their

movement within PAR.
Performance Standard Demonstrate precautionary measures before, during, and after a
typhoon a typhoon including following advisories ,storm signals and
calls for evacuation by government agencies in charge.
Learning Competency Explain how typhoons develop (S8ES-IId-18)

I. Learning The Grade 8 learners are expected to:

Objective a. Tell if the typhoon has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility
given the latitude and longitude of a tropical cyclone.
14. Explain what is meant when a typhoon has entered the Philippine
area of responsibility.
II. Subject Matter Understanding typhoon.
A. Concept  The word typhoon comes from and appears to be related in
pronunciation from the mandarin word “Tai Feng which
literally means “great or big wind”. Other possible origins of

word “Huracan” t5hat means “storm”.
 Typhoon is a tropical cyclone occurs in the Northwest Pacific
Ocean, West of the International Dateline.

III. Learning Tools

A. Engage  The teacher will post a picture showing an image of a Typhoon at
Strategy used by the Philippine Area of Responsibility
teacher: Picture
Analysis

Skills used by the

leaner: Observing,
communicating.
 Ask:
1.What do you see in the picture?
2. How will you describe the image?
 Possible responses
1. Image of the Philippine map and rotating clouds.
2. The image shows typhoon entering the PAR.
(The teacher will write some of the students answer on the blackboard)
(After soliciting the answers of the students, teacher proceed)

 The teacher will post a scrambled letter on the board showing

the different terms related to the topic.
Category Wind speed
 Tropical deprssion  Maximum sustained
winds between 55
km/hour(30 knots) and 64
km/hour (35 knots) near the
center.
 Tropical storms  Maximum sustained
winds of 65 km/hour (35
knots) and 119 km/hour (64
knots).
 Typhoons  Maximum sustained
winds of 120 km/hour (65
knots) and 185 km/hour (100
knots).
 Super typhoons  Maximum winds
exceeding 185 km/hour (100
knots)
B. Explore  The teacher will group the students into 6 groups
Strategy used by the  Introduce the rules in the making the activity:
teacher: Discovery 1.No one is allowed to use their gadgets.
Method 2.Cooperate with the class in performing the activity.
3.Do not make unnecessary noise.
4.Don’t play with the materials
Skills used by the 5.Finish the activity on time
leaner:  The teacher ask the students to proceed to their assigned group and
Predicting,Observing, make them a circle within their group
communicating.  The teacher will let each group to assigned a leader, time keeper,
material manager, recorder and writer.
 Each group will be given 15mins to finish the activity.
