WHAT

(1)Lobang Jepang, which means Japanese tunnel is an underground


military complex, which is now one of the historical tourist attraction in the
city of Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The Japanese tunnel is a
protection tunnel built by the Japanese for defense purposes.

(2)This tunnel is a bunker, the purpose id to use as a place for storing


supplies and equipment for Japanese army warfare on world war II. this
tunnel, including the reconnaissance room, ambush room, prison, and arsenal.

(3)This Japanese Tunnel is the one of the longest holes in Asia reaching
more than 8 kilometers.

(4)Thousands of people had already dead to establish this tunnel

WHERE

(1)The Japanese tunnel is located in the Panorama Park in Bukittinggi


City, West Sumatra. The distance is not too far from Jam Gadang in the city
center. If walking, it only takes less than 15 minutes.

(2)The most interesting part of this tunnel is the kitchen. The kitchen
room is not only used for cooking, but also used to chop dead prisoners and
threw they body to water down tunnel. So this kitchen also used as place to
execute the prisoners on colonial period.
WHEN

(1) The Japanese tunnel was built on 1942 for defense purposes, which
was fully completed in June, 1944. With total construction in 2 years. It was
first discovered in the early 1950s

(2) Japanese tunnel began to opened to the tourist in 1994. When the
tunnel was not opened yet to the public, there were skulls and tools to build
the tunnel, and now are kept in museum.

(3)The best time to visit Japanese tunnel is everyday while there are no
maintenance at the construction. Or if you dare, you can visit this place at
night :D

WHO

(1)Japanese tunnel was made at the instruction of letnan jendral

able to withstand a 500 kg bomb eruption.

(2) Japanese tunnel began to be managed as historical attractions by the


city government of Bukittinggi.
WHY

(1) The wall of this tunnel is a type of land which if mixed with water
will be more robust. Even the earthquake that shook West Sumatra in 2009
did not damage the structure of the tunnel much.

(2)The labors or “romusha” it’s come from the islands of Java,


Sulawesi and Kalimantan to dig this tunnel. Why not the people of
Bukittinggi? This is the strategy of Japanese to keep the secrecy of this
megaproject.

HOW

(1)It is be located not far from city center. So, the access to get here is
not to hard.

(2)The important things you should do in this place is –Always watch


your step –Never saying bad words, just respect the history
