Getting Started with Pantheon

on Windows XP/Vista/7
This tutorial describes the procedures for getting started with Pantheon on
Windows XP/Vista/7 systems. If you are using Linux, please see Tutorial 1B.

NOTE: This tutorial functions as an installation guide. For more

information on these and all other licensing and software installation
topics, see the Intercept System Administration Manual.

Prerequisites
In order to follow this tutorial, you must have a Pantheon license. To obtain
a license, contact sales@intercept.com.

Objectives
By following this tutorial you will learn the following tasks:
• Download Pantheon.
• Install Pantheon.
• Download a demo design to be used with Pantheon.
• Set license server options using the AppManager.
• Start a Pantheon session.

1 Download Pantheon
Pantheon software can be installed from a single executable downloaded
from the Intercept web site.

Pantheon Tutorial 3
Getting Started with Pantheon on Windows XP/Vista/7

1 Navigate to the following address in your Internet browser: http://

www.intercept.com/support/pantheon-pcb-hybrid-rf-layout.html

2 Double-click the Pantheon icon beside the Win XP/Vista/7 Pantheon

software download for the Production Release. The file is named
pantheon_pc_vX.X_XX.exe. Pantheon versions are available for either 32
or 64 bit versions, depending on your platform.

3 Follow the prompts to save the .exe file to your computer.

2 Install Pantheon
Pantheon software must be installed using the self-installing executable
downloaded from the Intercept web site. By default, the executable installs
the product software at the location C:/Program Files/intercept.

1 Navigate to the .exe file (downloaded in Section 1.0) on your computer

and double-click the installation file to begin the install process.

2 Follow the prompts to continue through the installation. Note that when
the process prompts for the directory location of installed files, the default
location should be used. If another location is specified, you will need to
change the value of the INTERCEPT system variable after you complete
the installation. This variable is defined automatically during the install
process; however, if the software is stored in a location besides the default,
see the Intercept System Administration Manual for information on defining this
environment variable manually.

3 Once the software installation is complete, place your license file in the
directory $INTERCEPT/license (in most cases, C:/Program Files/
intercept/license); Intercept software will not run without a license. The
license_file is sent via email from the Intercept License Administrator.

WARNING: Windows occasionally appends an extension to the license file

(for example, license_file.dat). Make sure that the file is named license_file,
with no extension following it.

3 Download the VME_160 Demo Design

Typically Pantheon is started by specifying an existing design at a specific
directory location. This set of Pantheon tutorials are used in conjunction with
the design vme_160, which you can download using the following steps.

1 Download the vme_160 design from www.intercept.com/support/

pantheon-documentation-downloads.html. A link to the vme_160 demo
design (vme_160.zip) resides at this location.

2 Unzip the vme_160 design and extract or save the files to a directory
location of your choosing.

5 Start Pantheon
Intercept provides an AppManager that is used to start Pantheon sessions.
The AppManager allows you to specify the design to open in Pantheon, the
specific application to use, and license server settings.

1 Double-click the Intercept AppManager icon on the desktop. If this

is the first time Pantheon has been used, a dialog is displayed
prompting you to define the Home user variable. The AppManager stores
required startup files in the location specified by the Home variable. Any
location except the /Program Files/intercept directory may be specified.

2 Define the variable location and click OK. The AppManager is displayed
as shown.

3 Before starting a Pantheon session, you will need to start the license
server. Click Server at the top of the AppManager dialog. In the Server
Setup dialog, click Change Server and Port Number to set the server
name (the same as the server name located in $INTERCEPT/license/
license_file). The default port number is 0x4321. Click Close when finished.

4 Click Start Server in the Server Setup dialog. Click Close to return to the
AppManager.

5 Specify the location of the vme_160 demo design in the Design field.
You must specify the top-level design folder, which contains a pantheon
sub-folder necessary to invoke the application on a design.

6 Select the version of Pantheon to start, such as the 64 bit version. (Note
that all other versions of Pantheon are 32 bit.)

7 Click Start. Pantheon is displayed with the vme_160 board displayed in

the Edit window.

This concludes the Getting Started tutorial. See the next tutorial, Basic Procedures,
to begin working with Pantheon. For more information on the installation and invocation
process, see the Intercept System Administration Manual.
