In a statement, the group of teachers likened the profiling of their members to the alleged narco or
"tokhang" list of the police authorities.
ACT believes the inventory of their teachers is part of the Duterte administration's "grand fascist scheme
to suppress all forms of opposition."
"In essence, this PNP memo on inventory and profiling of ACT members is very similar to the tokhang list
that the PNP forced barangay officials to fill out," the group said.
"PNP, back off! Hands off our teachers! Hands off our schools!
Stop profiling ACT members! Junk all memoranda on profiling of ACT members!" it added.
ACT also stressed that profiling violates their teachers' right to self-organization, freedom of expression
and assembly, right to privacy, as well as the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers.
Joselyn Martinez, the group's national chairperson, said police officers came to their school in Malabon
last Thursday, asking the principal for the names of teachers who are members of ACT.
They were showing a memorandum order to justify their visit, Martinez said, adding that similar
incidents were reported in Cebu, Isabela, and some provinces in Mindanao recently.
"Ang mga teacher, gumagawa kami ng aming tungkulin pero bakit kami gagantuhin ng Duterte
government?" Martinez lamented in an interview with ANC on Sunday.
"Ano ang susunod na gagawin ng mga kapulisan matapos makuha ang mga pangalan? Papatayin nila
kami? Anong gagawin nila, ipapakulong nila kami?" she asked.
ACT earlier showed copies of orders to "inventory" members of the group, which was supposedly signed
by Chief Inspector Rexson Layug of the Manila Police District Intelligence.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Guillermo Eleazar had already denied ordering
the school visits in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
But the intelligence chief of the Zambales provincial police confirmed the document passed on by ACT
was genuine, and they were "just following orders."
Martinez insists that ACT is a legitimate organization of teachers with a long history of service. She added
that they are recognized by the the Civil Service Commission and Department of Education.
