CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

This chapter presents the background of the study, the statement of the problem,

the significance of the study and the scope and delimitation,

BACKROUND OF THE STUDY

A scholar is a child or student who has obtained a scholarship, by which they

obtain money for their studies from their school or university, or from some other

organization. A person who studies an academic subject and knows a lot about it is

sometimes referred to as a scholar.

Scholarships are financial aid awards designed to help students pay for an

undergraduate degree. Sometimes a scholarship is a one-time check. Other school

scholarships are renewable and provide money for students each semester or school

year. These awards differ from student loans in that they don't have to be repaid.

Scholarships provide an opportunity for many people to earn an education. In a

country where a college degree is beneficial during a job search, scholarships lessen

the financial strain on many students. (2016)

A scholarship is an award of financial aid for a student to further their education.

Scholarships are awarded based upon various criteria, which usually reflect the values

and purposes of the donor or founder of the award. Scholarship money is not required

to be repaid. The money might go directly to your college, where it will be applied to any
tuition, fees, or other amounts you owe, and then any leftover funds given to you. Or it

might be sent directly to you in a check.

But the real question is why this scholarship need to meet the standard average

of the students? How does it work?

To be a scholar is not easy for the student because it is a big opportunity for

them but it can help them to boost their intelligence.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aimed to determine the Impact of BCE Scholarship to the Academic

State of students in Sta. Lucia Senior High School during the School Year 2019-2020,

It helps us to answer the following questions and to serves us guidelines in terms of

scholarship:

1. What is difference between the BCE Scholarship to other scholarships?

2. What are the effects of BCE scholarship to the students in Senior High?

3. How does the Scholarship work?

4. What are benefits of BCE scholarship to the students?

5. How does the student manage their time to concur the curricular activities and

studies to maintain their grade in scholarship?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

For students under the scholarship program – This study is important for the

students to know the importance of a scholarship and benefits that can give to

them as a Scholar.

For Parents of student’s program – It can help them to lessen their expenses

for the tuition and needs of their children.

For Future Researchers– This can provide them initial knowledge about having

a scholarship and not. It can also help them to their future researches and this

will be a guide for them.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This research is focuses mainly on the student who in the BCE

Scholarship. The BCE scholar givesa big opportunity to those students who want

to study in a University that they can’t afford. We choose some BCE scholars to

be the respondents to the survey questionnaire of our research.

This study is limited to to the Students of Sta Lucia Senior High School

who are including in the BCE Scholars.

CHAPTER II

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

REVIEW RELATED LITERATURE

A scholarship is a financial award given to a student on the basis of a academic

achievement and promise, Many scholarship are awarded based on melt. However,

some also take in to account financial lead. Scholarship do not have to be repaired.

(Flinn, 2015)

According to The University of Hawaii Foundation (2015), scholarship decrease

the number and amount of loan students need to take to complete higher education.

Two-Thirds of College students now graduated with loans, and there average college

debt is nearly $20,000 - and increase of more than 50%.

According to a study conducted by a The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the

number one reasons of students of drop out is working while studying.

Financial Benefit. Many students graduated college with enormous student loans

debt are limit their education in an attempt to control costs. Because scholarship are

free money. However, students can’t focus on their careers instead of thinking about

how they will repay loans. (Mahuron 2016)

Personal Benefit. Scholarship can make a big difference in how much time and

resources you will have during college to spend on enhancing your experience and

knowledge through service-learning, volunteer opportunities and internships. (Mahuron,

2016)
According to Giva Blog (2015), Scholarship that assist or cover cost of pursuing a

higher education provide a number of benefits for recipients. From reducing the financial

burden of the rising costs of a college education, to allowing students more time of

energy focus on studies rather than part-time work, scholarship are one piece in the

puzzle of what creates a strong foundation for supporting students in their success in

pursuing a degree, and furthermore completing that degree.

CHAPTER III

RESEARCH DESIGN

This chapter presents the method of research used, the sources of data, and the data, gathering

procedure, the gathering instruments and the statistical treatment of data.

Methods of Research Used

This work used correlational type of research design. We used this in order to find how

the student sacrifice between having a BCE Scholar and to perform well in their academic

performance. The survey design was used for this study and administered to a selected sample

from a specific students who have BCE Scholar in senior high students. Surveys using

questionnaire are easier to administer while assuring confidently in providing information a

relatively brief time period at researcher.

Data Gathering Instrument

The Researcher used one set of instruments to determine the effectiveness of the evaluative

study those given benefits in BCE scholar which included in our survey questionnaire

Data Gathering Procedures

The researchers asked permission from the principal of Sta. Lucia High School to allow them to

administer their questionnaires to the intended respondents.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The researchers used the following statistical tools for the analysis and

interpretation of data gathered.

Weighted Mean

This was used to find out the evaluation of the researchers respondents on

the Impact of BCE Scholarship of students in Senior High Sta Lucia.

Scale Range Verbal Interpretation

5 4.50 – 0.50 Strongly Agree (SA)

4 3.50 – 4.49 Agree (A)

3 2.50 – 3.49 Moderately Agree (MA)

2 1.50 – 2.49 Disagree (D)

1 1.00 – 1.49 Strongly Disagree (SD)

Percentage and Ranking

This was used to determine the impact of BCE scholarship to the academic performance

of Senior High students in Sta Lucia High School and the benefits that they get to this program.

To get the result we use the survey questionaiire or method for the Senior High who are in a

scholarship program.
