METHOD STATEMENT

6 Key Personals:
a) Shaji Nellikkadan (Forman-HFC) Contact No: 055-7660215
b) Jimson Jose (Project Engineer-HFC) Contact No: 050-6586689
c) Abraham Chacko (Project Manager-HFC) Contact No: 050-4453184
d) Abid Ali (Utility Manager-AFCON) Contact No: 050-5665109

7 Method of Construction:
a) Setting out the location of Buried Gate Valve as per the approved shop drawing
(Dwg. No. R855/2A/HFCON/U/CCR/DWD/001 Rev. 4).
b) Trial trench excavation to be carried out using hand shovel as per the approved shop
drawing.
c) Dewatering is not expected since the works are to be carried out above natural water
table.
d) Joint survey will be done after completion of trial trench in order to complete the final
alignment.
e) After finishing the final alignment with the Consultants and concerned authorities,
excavation will be carried out up to top of the existing line.
f) Shut down the existing live line by closing the existing valve A and B (Refer drawing
no. R855/2A/HFCON/U/DWD/SHDWN/VALVES/002 Rev0). Prior approval for shut
down will be obtained from the concerned authorities. Installation section will be
isolated by closing the valves A and B as shown in the sketch.
g) Excavate up to 250mm below the pipe bottom level, cut and remove pipe as per the
approved alignment.
h) Dewatering pump will be used for the removal of water. The discharge will made to
the nearest Storm water Manhole as shown in the attached sketch (Drawing No:
R855/2A/HFCON/U/DWD/SHDWN/VALVES/002 Rev0) for which prior approval is
obtained.
i) Valve passing if any will be reported to DEWA technicians immediately.
j) Formation Bed for blinding of the Buried Valve will be prepared as per approved
level.
k) Installation of the buried Gate Valve along with flexible pipes above 12mm protection
board will be done as per the approved shop drawing.

METHOD STATEMENT
l) After ensuring proper connection of short pipes and make-up pipes to the existing
line, layer by layer backfilling will be started.
m) After partial backfilling DEWA technicians will be called for opening the valves.
n) Close monitoring of the connection portion will be done for the next 24 hours

8 General
a) Excavation will be carried out as per the approved excavation drawing i.e. with
1.20x0.70m benching at each stage.
b) Adequate safety arrangements such as barricades, safety cones, lighting, and safety
mesh will be maintained as per AFCONS/RTA Safety Policy.
c) Backfilling will be carried out in 200mm thick Layers with in-situ density test for
each layers after the two visual layers.
d) Approximate distance between the two existing isolation valve A & B (refer attached
drawing) is 1600m. But due to the profile of the existing water line and the presence
of a Washout Valve near the Valve A, the water in the entire isolated pipe length need
not be pumped out. Therefore, the quantity of water to be discharged is computed by
considering a total length of 1000m. (Max expected water =17000 gallons).
e) One 6” dewatering pump and one 2” dewatering pump will be used for the pumping
of water.(stand-by pumps will be provided for both pumps)
f) Emergency Team of skilled workers under the supervision of Project Manager will be
made available in case of any emergency.
