Current design
• The AEVS is fully automatic.
• It cools the electrical and electronic components in the avionics compartment and on the
flight deck, including the instrument and circuit breaker panels. It uses two fans to force the
flow of cooling air.
• The system can be operated in three configurations:
− Open loop (normally used on ground)
− Closed loop with recirculation of air and cooling down in a skin heat exchanger (used
in flight and on ground when cold outside)
− Intermediate configuration with the help of conditioned backup air (smoke
configuration, also used for ambient temperatures > 35 C).

Current design
• Signals and AEVC Logics
• The AEVS configuration is determined by the AEVC based on flight phase and ambient
conditions.
• Data are collected via several interfaces. The AEVC gets the “Weight On Wheels”
signal from the LGCIU and “Thrust Lever Angle” from the EIU. Furthermore, the outside
temperature is also a parameter for the skin air valve management . This is determined
via a dedicated Skin Temperature Sensor.
• The skin air valves open when the following condition is given:
• “Weight On Wheels” and skin air temp over 12 °C.
• The skin air valves close when the following condition is given:
• “Weight On Wheels” and skin air temp below 9 °C or “Thrust Lever Angle” = TO
• Data from the AVS are sent to the aircraft via the following ways:
• From AEVC to CFDIU (BITE) and SDAC,
• from duct temperature switch and smoke sensor to SDAC,
• from both skin air valves to SDAC and
• from both overhead push buttons to SDAC.

Current design
• Display on ECAM
• The status of the two fans (8) and both skin air valves (9, 10) are shown in the ECAM
CAB PRESS page.
• The position of the valves is calculated by the FWC similarly to the AEVC but measured
with different means (Total Air Temperature sensor TAT instead of Skin Temperature
Sensor). If there is a mismatch of calculated (based on TAT) and measured position
(controlled by AEVC based on skin temperature), the valves are displayed in amber.
• An FCOM disregard procedure exists.

Æ New Logic of AEVC V07 for Optional additional duct temperature switch
(Avionics Comfort Duct Temperature Sensor, 34HQ)
• The V06 logic of the AEVC is modified to keep the AVS in closed loop configuration on
ground as long as downstream cooling air temperatures are < 40 °C.
• For duct temperatures ≥ 40 °C on ground, the V06 logic is applicable, which means that
case 1 or 2 is selected depending on the skin temperature.
