CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND IT’S BACKROUND

Introduction

The use of new technologies, including the Internet, has created new steps in
doing business. Business people can easily do all their activities in minutes without
having to spend on travel, because it can be done through the internet. In short, internet
applications in e-commerce have changed the business environment.

As day goes by, Online Shopping or E-commerce is becoming more popular and
efficient for most of the people. Different online shop website and applications are being
created and it is used by many people. Today we have, Lazada, Shopee, Zalora,
Carousell, eBay and more. These are the top 5 e-commerce website that the consumers
are using. According to the statistics, Filipinos are among to the world’s heaviest Internet
users, spending an average of 10 hours and 2 minutes using the Internet every day.

Many youths, young adults, middle-aged adults, and even older adults are already
participating in using the online shop websites and applications. However, in this study
the researchers want to focus on studying the population of housewives using Shopee

There are many products that are available in Shopee such as Men’s Apparel,
Women’s Apparel, Mobile & Accessories, Health & Personal Care, Home Entertainment,
Makeup & Fragrances, Gaming, Home Appliances, Babies & Kids, Laptops &
Computers, Home & Living, Cameras, Groceries, Sports and Travel, Toys, Mens Bags &
Accessories, Women’s Bags, Men’s Shoes, Women’s Accessories, Motors, Women’s
Shoes, Hobbies & Stationery and Pet Care.

This is one of the main reason why using Shopee is advisable to many because it
has a lot of variables. Shopee believe that online shopping should be accessible, easy and
enjoyable. Nowadays, people do not have to waste their time walking to the store to buy
things. They only need to browse the internet and search for what they want and get it.
With this convenience in mind, the interest in online shopping is increasing. In that
connection the researchers prefer one of the online shop sites namely Shope

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Shopee Philippines is a shopping site that provides fashion and lifestyle needs
consisting of products from various brands. Online shopping is becoming a suitable way
to make all your purchases, whether you’re at home in office, or in a different country.
This is especially true for developed countries, where every store has its website you can
buy from. You can easily convey about the promotions like cash on delivery and special
discounts on online purchases.

Statista reports that Filipinos spent a total of US$4.7 billion on online purchases
in 2018, with more than three-quarters of this amount – US$3.5 billion – going to online
travel purchases. Online consumer goods purchases totalled just US$840 million in 2018,
(Digital Market Outlook survey).

Research by We Are Social and Hootsuite reveals that 71 per cent (76 million) of
the country’s total population of 107.3 million people are active Internet users. Of that
number, 70 per cent have purchased a product or service online in the past month. The
majority of Filipinos who shop online are between the ages of 18 to 31. It is mostly from
Generation Z and Millennials that’s why we are going to find out how much of the
population of housewife are using Shopee.

At the end of this study we will be able to determine if its really advisable for
housewife to use Online Shop or Shopee and the reason why it is or why not it is
acceptable.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The study seeks to answer answer the following questions:

1. What is the profile of the respondents with regards to age and place of the
consumers?

1.2 Place of the Housewives

2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using Shopee as the New Shopping
Square?

3. Are they aware of Online Shopping?

4. What way of shopping is preferable by the Housewives?

5. How many times they use shopee to order things that they need?
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This study is focused on the Acceptabili of using Shopee at thei New Shopping
Square for selected Housewives living around Trece Martires, City. This study is limited
to 100 selected Housewives living around Trece Martires, City. Hence, the data that will
be acquired is based from the respondents who were delimited for this study. The
population of Trece Martires, City as of 2019 is 214, 139 people. Population of women in
Trece Martires, City as of 2015 is 77,538.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study will be conducted to give beneficial affect to the following:

Researchers

This study will be beneficial to the researchers and future researcher for they will
be informed about the relevance and the acceptability of using Shopee as the new
shopping square.

Respondents

This study will be beneficial to the respondents because they will be informed
about the advantages and disadvantages of using Shopee as the New Shopping Square
for Selected Housewives.

Society

This study will be beneficial to the society that are included in our study. They
will learn more information about the Acceptabilility of Using Shopee as the New
Shopping Square. It will also help them to study if it will help our economy to grow.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

Figure 1 Represents the variables and concept related to this study. It discusses the
determination of the respondent’s profile and data. Determination of Accepting the
Shopee as their new Shopping Square for selected Housewives were obtained through
modifies questionaires made by the researchers. Results of the use of Shopee for selected
Housewives were correlated to the conveniency and its uses.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Acceptability. It is the characteristic of a thing being subject to acceptance for some


purposes. A thing is acceptable if it is sufficient to serve the purpose which it is provided.
A quality of being satisfactory and able to be agreed to or approved of.

Shopee. It is the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. It is a


platform tailored for the region, prodiving customers with an easy, secure and fast online
shopping experience through strong payment and logistical support.

Shopping. It is an activity in which a customer browses the available goods or services


presented by one or more retailers with the intent to purchase a suitable selection of them.

Online Shopping. It is the process of buying goods and services from merchants over
the Internet.

E commerce. It is also known as “electronic commerce or internet commerce” which


refers to the buying and selling goods or services using the internet and the transfer of
money and data to execute these transactions.

Housewives. It is a woman whose work is running or managing her family’s home –


caring for her children, buying, cooking, and storing food for the family; buying goods
that the family needs for everyday life.
