Statement of Purpose

Each country has something unique to offer in the field of architecture, varying
from diverse styles, characteristics and ornamentations in buildings, to general
layout and planning and detailed communities. Being a professional in the field of
Architecture, I am motivated to study abroad to broaden my international
outwork while simultaneously strengthening my professional abilities to gain
inspiration and integrate it with my future projects. England (UK) with reference
to London and London Southbank University has been the focus and home to the
best of graduates and post graduates since a long period of time. After going
through various courses outside India and within India, I shortlisted London
Southbank University and narrowed it down for my professional career. The
structure of Urban Design and Planning according to me assimilates detailed
planning theories and design. It will be amusing to absorb most of these subjects
as they are intricately connected to the practical market in my opinion.

I attained my B.Arch. degree from School of Architecture, at Sardar Patel Institute

of Technology. Studying this course helped me build a thorough foundation of
architectural knowledge and design and has broadened my vision for abstract
designs and theories. I have watched the world around me, fascinated by how the
physical and social environment is constantly changing. Having experienced
living in different cities over some period of time after commencement of my
graduation, I have always tried to experience fully what each city has to offer. I
see Urban Design and Planning as a disciplined field that combines and achieves
beautiful results and makes communities more livable. Moreover this field is
dominated by globally changing trends where I would also want to focus about
modern solutions with core roots of local context. I feel that both my natural
instinct, and my direct exposure to many growing urban issues, new
technologies, new adopted policies by the government , methodology and
development has fostered my desire towards working for urban development
with amalgamation of strategies like smart city policies and social issues at
graduate level. In my free time, I participated in several workshops, seminars
and practically worked voluntarily at an architecture firm. Moreover, I have also
attended several supplementary courses to attain knowledge and certification in
various software applications that were imperative to the working of an
architectural student.

Currently, I am working as a Co-architect at Evolution Architects Vadodara,

Gujarat. So far, this experience has developed my business and professional skill
set and my attention to detail. The contrast between my academic training and
my work experience has led me to understand my field better. Now that I have a
firm understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of architecture
and design, this background shapes my intellectual and professional values and I
hold in high regard approaches to partnership that value sensible, practical
solutions and incorporate diverse authorities. Thus, I feel that I am prepared to
take my next step in professional development, which is the pursuit of post
graduation.

Getting into M.A. In Urban Design and Planning will lead me eventually to my
career goal which is to work with organizations and developers that specialize in
urban revitalization and projects in decaying urban and first-ring suburban
areas. Immediately after graduation, I am using my education to gain a position
as an architecture consultant working on varied scale of projects, redevelopment
schemes that leads me someday towards urban projects and community
development at my family established firm. I hope to study projects that work to
involve not only for-profit developers and government entities but also are
cognizant of the grassroots of community issues. Through research, in my
perspective it would be able to identify those conditions and best practices
(urban planning, design technology and social issues) that help foster successful
partnerships between these three groups. The programme will also help me
develop and upgrade my thinking level at a better maturity level. The course will
also enhance me as an individual in terms of discipline, organized professional
and will also give me better presentation skills when I am working in the market
as a part of an organization or a consultant. I am also intrigued by the different
designing styles and learning these by collaborating with students and
instructors from diverse backgrounds will expose me to a wide range of ideas
and perspectives, this in itself, will be a valuable asset for my future career.
Further the post graduation level will serve as my base for taking up projects that
include government organizations and various other agencies that work into the
sectors of planning and other allied fields. The Masters program for Urban Design
and Planning at London Southbank University is ideal for meeting my
educational and professional goals. The modern facilities and esteemed
professors can provide me cutting-edge education that will prepare me for the
challenges that I will face in the future.

After graduation, I will be returning back to my home country and with

integrated learning’s into the practical field and market will give me an
opportunity which allow me to understand the local practices, habits, urban
communities, and amalgamation of architectural styles of a thoroughly
developed country which I can then adapt, transform and apply to our
developing cities in India. Thus it will prepare me for a lifetime of success in the
field of architecture and planning.
