Snack Habits That Affect The Nutritional Status Of Students


I want to tell you about snack habits that affect the nutritional status of students. As
students, we have moderate activities, even though we are only sitting in class. We as students
carry out activities on campus for 8 hours. For 8 hours we are required to think and accept
lessons from lecturers. When we think hard, it will easily get hungry. As a solution, during time
the rest students will going to the canteen for lunch. But there is one thing that concerns me,
about the menu provided in the canteen.

As a health student, healthy food intake certainly becomes an important thing as the
application of a healthy lifestyle, but the fact is in the canteen it provides less healthy food. Such
as fried chicken or chicken geprek, fried rice, intestine satay, and others. For those who are
hungry, there will be no other choice for their lunch menu.

In my opinion the variety of menu’s in the canteen does not meet the needs of balanced
nutrition. There should be a vegetable and fruit menu, because for people like me who are very
careful about the intake of food that enters the body.

The proverbs say, “You Are What You Eat”. So, what we eat will reflect the quality of
ourselves. in addition, we are the younger generation, the generation of the nation's hopes. One
effort to improve the quality of human resources is to provide nutritionus snacks to meet the
body's needs while attending lessons on campus.

And for those who like to buy snacks that lack nutrient content, the lack of attention to
the nutritional content of snacks will cause negative aspects of snacks, if consumed in excess can
cause excess energy intake or obesity.

Just for info in one serving fried rice has 330 calories, which is dominated by energy and
fat. whereas geprek chicken has 660 calories, contain high levels of fat and calories which should
be limited in consumption, If not balanced with fruit and vegetable consumption it will lead to
excess nutrition or obesity.
We as health students are aware of the importance of quality food intake. I am especially
a nutrition student, was very concerned about the lack of menu variations in the canteen,
especially for processed vegetable and fruit menu’s. Because the pattern of unbalanced food
consumption habits will cause health problems, such as obesity. And will affect the nutritional
status of students which have an impact on the quality of achievement.
