Muitos líderes evangélicos receberão jubilosos este volume teológico saído
da pena do Dr. Emery H. Bancroft. Ainda que este nove volume seja um
compcndio elementar, é valioso e importante.
E realmente lamentável que nossos dias não estejam produzindo grandes
teólogos. Há negligência nesse significativo campo. A negligência talvez seja
devida parcialmente ao fato que especializar-se no terreno da teologia, exige
submissão a uma disciplina mental que não oferece atrativo algum em nossa
época de excentricidades e delibilidades intelectuais.
Para que se perceba a necessidade de um reavivamento na teologia é
bastante que se leia as obras teológicas de outras épocas e em seguida se leia
alguns dos modernos livros religiosos. Alguns de nossos ensaístas populares,
que estão pregando e escrevendo o que consideram sermões, bem poderiam dar
atenção à obra elementar do professor Bancroft.
O Dr. A. H. Strong define a teologia como segue: “Teologia é a ciência de
Deus e das relações e n t r e Deus e o universo”, como alvo da teologia ele
apresenta “a averiguação dos fatos concernentes a Deus e às relações entre Deus
e o universo, bem como a exibição desses fatos em sua unidade racional, como
partes componentes de um sistema formulado e orgânico de verdade” .
Aqui vemos a importância e o valor do estudo da teologia. No presente
volume nosso autor teve em mente a necessidade dos alunos de Institutos
Bíblicos e daquele grande número de obreiros cristãos que estão a ensinar nas
classes de Escola Dominical.
Sem contar o valor do conhecimento adquirido, o estudo deste assunto
contribui para o desenvolvimento mental. A habilidade de pensar com clareza e
de apresentar a verdade de maneira lógica é o resultado que geralmente se segue
ao estudo diligente da teologia.
