Detailed concept
To follow up the last presentation, here we are with the coloured version of the concept and general printed contents. It also includes final graphic layout and
charter.
Texts are however here not final since they are in the proofreading process and will then be transleted in Hindi.
However, the amount of words is close to the final result in the English version.
Principles of visit
- The Learning Lab is organized so that visitors can come and visit it for a first time, on a period of 30-45 min, and repeat it on another day, thus completing a
whole tour in self-paced conditions. This will also allow them to take some time for reflection and think about their position, behaviour and attitude towards
Climate Change and Climate Finance.
- Visit is self-guided, self-paced. There is no obligation to follow a lead, however, signage and furniture will be designed to suggest a path (by example, to enter
Module 1 for the first time of visit).
- Although the tour is self-guided, it is required that staff will switch on and off power supply.
As for now, some contents for following modules are missing or under design process:
- Module 4 : Complexity of Climate Change, second part : we need to imagine another solution for the illustration of mitigation/adaptation strategies. It was
previously featured by the LabX (ex-Koshland Science Museum) Mitigation Simulator app, which unfortunately proved to be too difficult and time-consuming
to be adapted to the Indian context
Mood boards have been analyzed in depth, as well as trials for ground/ typography matching.
Some changes have been made to the colours in order to make contents more readable and attractive.
Graphic layout has been set in its variation : printed texts and images, screen layout, etc. to give an idea of the overall layout presented withing the Lab.
Awareness of
Climate Change
- The first one is very immersive and takes place in a relatively small and confined room, in order to bring visitors close to the reality of Climate Change,
especially in India. It is a dark room in which light will come from screens, which will broadcast TV news clips, reminding visitors of the last, most tragic natural
events. Sound will be loud, also to reinforce the effect of closeness to these events.
- The second area are shelves, where objects related to Climate Change will be displayed. Whether obvious or more enigmatic objects, each will have a
caption explaining why they will play a role in the next decades.
- The third and last element is video screens where visitors will watch and listen to testimonials of real people who recount their own experience with Climate
Change. We choose small screen to opt for a special, personal connection between one visitor and the persons who will talk about their experience. Visitors
will have handset to listen to these stories.
4 Testimonials
Impacts of
Climate Change
- The first one is a model showing the greenhouse effect. The model is placed under a glass dome, with a UV lamp heating on the dome’s surface. Two
thermometers, one on the outside of the dome and the other one on the inside will show the temperature variation. The model will represent a miniature of the
Earth’s landscapes with an ocean, an agricultural field, a city and mountains with glacier (to be confirmed).
- The second one is directly linked to the model. It is a diagram explaining in details the greenhouse effect, and the role of heat-trapping gases, or greenhouse
gases.
- The third one is a giant diagram/organigram dislpayed on the curved wall which depicts all the impacts of Climate Change in every category : weather
events, ocean deregulation, health, agriculture, season confusion, glacier melt and gender. The purpose here is to show the overwhelming effect of Climate
Change and its overall, global impact on Earth.
- The outside of the wall will feature a nice, idealised picture of landscapes or a collage of nice landscape pictures, as to create an effect of contrast with the
inside wall.
Contribution to
Climate Change
- The first one is to let visitors experience the « Good Green Deeds » (GGD) application, an application developed by GIZ India, about the estimation of
carbon footprint. A simple, and effective way to let anyone determine his/her own footprint.
- The second one is a photobooth, where visitors will be able to take a picture of themselves (with one or two persons) while seating on a bank. With a green
background behind them, they will select a background (or wallpaper) and a message, which will be inserted in the picture . Once all items are put together,
they will send the picture to friends, family or colleagues, thus encouraging them to join and take simple, good and eco-friendly steps in their everyday life.
Previously taken pictures will be displayed on the other side of the photobooth, on a larger screen. Visitors will thus be invited to go for a picture but also
pictures will play as messages left to other visitors, just like reminder/footsteps in the sand. Visitors will also have the occasion here to get into a reflection
about one’s good or bad behaviour regarding Climate Change.
Complexity of
Climate Change
- The first one is a circuit ball game, which symbolizes how to act with and solve a complex problem. The problem itself is to take a ball from point A to point
B. Here, visitors will deploy all efforts and energy to make it successful. The circuit will most probably be vertically designed, so as to save space and be a
strong visual element.
- The second one is not clearly defined as of today’s date. Adapting the LabX Mitigation Simulator is not an option anymore (LabX has countered the
proposal with a veto, cliaming technical and professional difficulties). Meanwhile, the purpose of this module is to clearly understand the necessary need for
adaptation/mitigation in acting against Climate Change. Another solution will have to be determined here.
Projects of
Climate Finance
- The first one is an interactive map of India, listing selected projects that benefited from Climate Finance in the agricultural sector. In order to let more
visitors enjoy this experience, we chose to have one main touchscreen, which will allow one visitor to select a project, based on its category (still to be
determined, by why not water management systems, seed selection, devices, etc.) or geographic location. Then the project will be displayed in details, with all
of its information (dates, organization, pictures and even videos) on a another, larger, vertical screen, so other visitors can see it and discover more about the
project.
- The second part are small screens, where visitors will watch and listen to the testimonials of participants to Climate Finance projects. This will be the
opportunity to listen to real and various persons who have been through all the administrative and application process, who can warn against pitfalls, give
some good advice...As for Module 1, visitors will listen to sound with an audio handset.
Climate Finance
- The first one is an informational introduction to Climate Finace in India, with various data, figures and other visual elements brought to the visitors
attention. These are very simple, getting straight to the point in order to make visitors understand that the matter is relaly important and worth getting invlved
in it, as it is a relevant way to tackle Climate Change, especillay in rural sector.
- The second one is a wheel of fortune, a playful manner to discover the various Climate Finance tools and their specifities. By letting the wheel roll, a screen
place right next to it will display information about them (definition, main field of application, etc..).
- The third and last one is a table where puzzle games are available to visitors. The puzzles will allow visitors to recreate a Climate Finance projects by putting
together pieces that will each have a specific form (nature of finance tool) and also feature a specific pictogram (financing organism/ insitution). These pieces
will be put on a colored surface with various areas which will feature the compenants of a CF project.
Attitude towards
Climate Change
This last module is a bit different from the others. It will most probably be at the end of the visit of the Learning Lab. Thus, it will be the time to take a distance
and get oneself into reflection about the Earth’s future, and in general about one’s attitude towards Climate Change.
Visitors will listen here to stories, from mythology to success stories, with astronauts to schoolkids telling their vision. Visitors will be in a relaxed position on
comfortable loungers. Each story will bring a different perspective, with its own message of wisdom, hope and energy.
The motto is : «we need to do something, it will not be easy, but we can overcome it».
Visitors will listen to six stories, with an average duration of 2,5 to 3 minutes. And then, they will walk out through an exit door, symbolized as the door to a
better future.

ATTITUDE TOWARD CLIMATE CHANGE
THE IMPACT OF
CLIMATE CHANGE
