Reaction Paper on How Media Influence Society

In modern days, social media has a great impact on human life. Media is a tool of

communication for retrieving and providing information. Media today consist of television, the

Internet, cinema, newspapers, radio, magazines, direct mail, fax, and the telephone. Viewers can

see some form of pictorial representation of messages through certain types of broadcasting and

advertising. Images are visual representations, pictures, graphics, and include video, movies.

Images are very useful in media to help get across messages effectively (Essays, UK, 2018).

There are different kinds of media such as print media, broadcast media, new media, etc.

The information that the media provide with us is so wide and diverse, including every aspect of

politics, economy, and society (Essays, UK, 2018). This became a daily basis for everyone. Most

of the people cannot avoid using any form of media in their daily life. Media has a bearing on

people's lives it can be negative or positive.

As time pass by, media is expanding, so it’s positive and negative effects also increase.

This paper will discuss some positive and negative effects on society. One of the positive effects

of media is the information and updates that it can give to people. For instance, most schools use

Facebook to give news or updates to students regarding their activities and events. Also, people

use Google when they need information about a specific topic.

Media has negative effects on the physical and psychological well-being of society. People

spending hours in front of a television or surfing the Internet experience eye problems. Lack of

physical activity leads to obesity problems. Media influences public opinion and impacts the

choices that people make (Oak, 2018). Also, one of the negative effects of media is hacking. For

example, one of my friend's Facebook account was hacked last week by an anonymous person.

She couldn't open it until now so she just created a new account. To avoid this kind of activity you

need to connect your Facebook account on your Google account or your number so you can easily

restore it if someone hacks it, you can also manage your log-in status in account setting in security

and login.

Media can be useful but we need to control or limit ourselves in using it. We should be

aware of what we post or share, and what we watch in any form of media. Media easily affect our

life in lifestyles, beliefs and even traditions. Media can be useful in our society but we should adopt

what right for us and what will help us. As a student, you must balance everything like studies,

sports, and using media properly so we can avoid the negative effects of media.
