INTRODUCTION
)

Prosoft e-Solutions India Pvt. Ltd. is a research based software development company committed to
delivering world class software and enterprise solutions. We add value to your organization by our
domain expertise and capability to handle big data.

Call Detail Records (CDRs) provide a wealth of information which help in identifying suspects along with
their communication, behavior patterns & location. For apprehension of criminals involved in heinous
offences, it is often a necessity for the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA) to obtain the Subscriber Details
Record (SDR), Call Details Record (CDR) and Customer Acquisition Form (CAF) in respect of mobile phones
from Mobile Service Provider (MSP) / Telecom Service Provider (TSP) for analysis.

Call Detail Record (CDR) is the detailed record of all the telephonic calls that pass through a telephone
exchange or any other telecommunications equipment. The record is maintained by the concerned
telephone exchange and contains call details such as time of the call, duration of the call, source and
destination number, completion status of the call, etc. Call detail records serve a valuable purpose of
revenue generation for telephone service providers and are critical for law enforcement, whenever
required. CDR is also used for VOIP and is a file containing all usage details such as source of origin and
destination point of the call, usage period of the IP and the total amount charged during the billing
period. Call Detail records are maintained by telephone exchanges emitting information in the form of
tickets, with respect to individual customers/users.

the probable list of numbers he is most likely to call. This can be derived from his earlier
CDR i.e. by looking at the base numbers (frequently called numbers) of earlier CDR or

Page | 41
Release Date: 4th Aug 2017

) other inputs. Than we need to go to new number analysis and select all these CDRs . Old
time period is the time period till his old SIM card was active. New time period is the
time period when he stopped using his old SIM card. once we click on find new number
we will get the list of new common number and new numbers. New common numbers
are those numbers which are present in more than one CDR only during new time
period and not present prior to that. These numbers are highly likely to be new number
used by suspect, which must than be verified.

Social Network Analysis:

Fig 8.16: Social Network tools

Degree:

In the case of a directed network (where ties have directions),we usually define two
separate measures of degree centrality, namely in degree and out degree. Accordingly in
degree is a count of the numbers of ties to the node and out degree is the number.

Betweeness :

Betweenness centrality is an indicator of a node’s centrality in a network. It is equal to

the number of shortest paths from all vertices to all other that pass through that node.

Closeness:

In a connected graph, the normalized closeness centrality (or closeness) of a node is the
average length of the shortest path between the node and all other nodes in the graph.
Thus the more central a node is, the closer it is to all other nodes.

Page | 67
Release Date: 4th Aug 2017
User Manual: C5 CDR Analyzer

) Eigenvector :

Eigenvector centrality (also called Eigen centrality) is a measure of the influence of a

node in a network. It assigns relative score to all nodes in the network based on the
concept that connections to high scoring nodes contribute more to the score of the node.

Result:

View the results generated.

Fig 8.17 : Social network result

 Result of social network analysis will displayed as above. This process helps
investigating social structures through the use of networks and graph theory. It
characterizes networked structures in terms of nodes (individual actors people, or
things within the network) and the ties, edges or links (relationships or
interactions) that connect them.

Details:

 After right click on any node in the graph you can view details of that node. And
also you can change icon of that node.

GLOSSARY

IO: Investigating Officer

CDR: Call Detail Record.

A call detail record (CDR) is a data record produced by a telephone exchange or other
telecommunications equipment that documents the details of a telephone call or other
telecommunications transaction (e.g., text message) that passes through that facility or device.
The record contains various attributes of the call, such as time, duration, completion status,
source number, and destination number.

SDR: Subscriber Details Record.

IMEI : International Mobile Equipment Identity.

IMEI is short for International Mobile Equipment Identity and is a unique number given to
every single mobile phone, typically found behind the battery. IMEI numbers of cellular phones
connected to a GSM network are stored in a database (EIR - Equipment Identity Register)
containing all valid mobile phone equipment.

IMSI : International Mobile Subscriber Identity.

The IMSI is used in any mobile network that interconnects with other networks. For GSM,
UMTS and LTE network, this number is provisioned in the SIM card and for CDMA2000 in the
phone directly or in the R-UIM card (the CDMA2000 analogue to a SIM card for GSM).

IPDR : Internet Protocol Detail Record.

IP Detail Record (IPDR) provides information about Internet Protocol (IP)-based service usage
and other activities that can be used by operations support systems (OSSes) and business support
systems (BSSes). The content of the IPDR is determined by the service provider,
network/service element vendor, or any other community of users with authority for specifying
the particulars of IP-based services in a given context.
