Unexpected.
Centre of Mass
That one point which, under the influence of external forces and conditions,
moves/behaves as if the entire mass of the system is concentrated there.

Its motion is same as if the resultant of all forces acting on the system is
directly applied to it.
Centre of Mass and Centre of Gravity

A concept similar to centre of mass is centre of gravity.

The centre of gravity of a body is that point at which the force of gravity can be
considered to act.
NOTE

There would be a difference between the two only if a body is large enough so that the
acceleration due to gravity would be different at different parts of the body

Mass Moment
It is defined as the product of mass of the particle and distance of the particle from the
point about which mass moment is taken. It is a vector quantity and its direction is
directed from the point about which it is taken to the particle, as shown.

A
The mass moment of particle A(mass = m) about the
point P is given by mz. m

z is the distance between point mass and the point

Important Points
➔ CM is independent of Mass, it depends on Ratio of Mass.

➔ CM of two particles always lie on the line joining the two particles.

➔ CM of two particles is always towards the heavier mass
